[RESOLVED] facebook became transparent

Post by mrspooky »

Hi there
after the last noscript update I lost ... facebook. Meaning that I can see everything in there except the content.
I have performed the easiest test (unistall noscript and restart firefox) and everything was ok. I reinstalled it and ... same issue.
Nothing changes if I grant the whole facebook site full permission.

Does installing the older NoScript instead of the latest update, make it work again? If so what is the latest rc version that works?

Any change if you disable all other extensions except for NoScript?

As a test, create a new, clean Profile.
Install NoScript.
Does Facebook work?

I went back to 2.7 and nothing changes.
Facebook seems also not responsive in some functions , meaning that clicking on the padlock it does not respond, if I click on my name it shows again an empty window, while if I click "find friends" the window is "fully informative".

I have also tested another profile that I have on the very same browser (the difference is just in some extension) and there it works.
In the attached jpg you can see on the right column the working profile and on the left the one having problem with noscript

Any messages in the Browser Console (Ctrl+Shift+J)?

You should at least test the profile on the left with all extensions not listed on the right disabled or uninstalled. I think I have seen some of your listed extensions on the left mentioned in a not-so-good context...

the "not so good" issue was not a problem until two days ago. In the meanwhile I didn't install any other new addons.
I will test it however by trying to unistall one by one the addons in the left column

Here is what I get by opening web developer/console

Er, by "not-so-good" I meant like in adware, trackingware, and/or spam type context

Just one example, Ant Video Downloader http://labs.detectify.com/post/13352821 ... of-privacy

I don't use that type of addon so I'm no expert, but Giorgio (the NoScript dev and our forum Admin) maintains FlashGot, will that work for you?

--------------------

BTW, Ant Video Downloader is just one where I remembered the link where I had read about it, there are others on that list that also really caught my attention:

- I am not sure what Pin It button is but it's not on AMO... I assume it's pinterest-related, if so it's probably tracking you in all sorts of ways - all these social networks track as much as they can about anyone who access their servers (user or not), and bear in mind that an extension can track you a LOT more than a web page (and do much more damage as well). So unless it's an extension you created or modified, I would strongly suggest you get rid of it.

- I also can remember having recently seen some spam promoting Whatsapp FWIW...

(These aren't all the addons on that list that caught my attention, but on thinking about it more (and disassembling one XPI) the addons I didn't mention are *not* malicious, but just have similar names to addons that are adware.)

Oh, and (not for troubleshooting now, but for some later time whenever) having had such extensions installed, you might want to consider to scan your system for malware per General Troubleshooting Instructions #2 once they are removed...

By the way, the browser console messages strongly indicate that there is a script not being loaded (thus there are lots of things not defined when they are expected).

You said that you were allowing everything on Facebook? Nothing in the Blocked Objects or Untrusted submenus? Are there any other NoScript-related messages in the console?

I think I have identified the origin of the problem
fbcdn.net
once I granted it with full permissions, facebook became again visible.
As you can see below, granting full access to FB was not enough

I am going to test it asap (even if Ffox seems not happy to let me install this addons. I have had to say "go ahead. I trust them").

p.s.
I cannot use malwarebyte because my mac (both of them actually) are too old (2006 ... but still doing their job perfectly) and I am still running 10.6.8
