Why do NoScript updates cause firefox to hang

Post by Goodwitch »

Since Firefox updated to 43.0.1/2/3/4 every time NoScript updates, which has been VERY frequently Firefox hangs and becomes unresponsive. In Task Manager it is shown as running, yet the mouse pointer is just a blue revolving circle and I can do nothing with it. Firefox uses up to 52% of the CPU, if I click on End Task in Task Managers Applications tab Firefox disappears from the list. Yet in the Processes tab it is still showing as using 50% or so of the CPU, I then have to click to End Process to stop Firefox running. Every time I have restarted Firefox after one of these incidents NoScript has updated! I have screenshots of today's events, but couldn't figure out how to post them here.

I really appreciate the functionality of NoScript but if this keeps happening I will have to remove the extension as it is getting to be really annoying.

Would removing and then reinstalling the extension solve my problem, or have others reported the same thing.

Posting a screenshot on the forum.

Could an antivirus/firewall be interfering?

On a (NoScript) program update, by default, the release notes display.
Otherwise on FF startup, by default, the ABE WAN check kicks in.

Otherwise...?

Thanks for the help to post the screenshots

I'm using MSE as antivirus and nothing has changed with the settings. Windows Firewall, no changes there either. Today there was another NoScript update that didn't affect Firefox the same way. At that time I only had 1 FF window and 1 tab open. I'm stumped as to why this is happening. It seems to be when there are 7 or more tabs open at a time, and/or when there are 2 Firefox windows open. I've been doing this for years with no problems before. It has to be something that has changed in the Firefox 43.0 update as there were no problems before that happened.

Is when NoScript updates, the only (or typical) time that you close & restart FF?

I only close and restart Firefox when it hangs because I have to. Or on the rare occasions when an extension is added or removed that requires a restart. In all the years I've been using FF it has never hung until recently.

@RMK_99: Your posts are not about a hang caused by or happening with the process of NoScript updating, split to a new thread: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=21544
*Always* check the changelogs BEFORE updating that important software!
