NS popups not working and sites failing silently
Odd behaviour I noticed a few days ago when regular sites I visit didn't seem to load properly, thought nothing of it until I went to another regular site this morning and it didn't work at which point I notice the NS status/toolbar icon is missing and I am not getting popups to adjust the site.
Poking around I see the icons have moved from the right hand side of the bottom bar to the left hand side and I have the red and blue S but no way to adjust script permissions. If I right click on one of the S's, it just gives me the menu for modifying the toolbar: move to menu, customize etc.
I didn't explicitly change anything and not clear what settings I would need to change in NS Options to get back to previous normal behaviour.

Re: NS popups not working and sites failing silently
it's probably caused by malware (it was for everyone else who reported this kind of thing).... so scan your system for malware per General Troubleshooting Instructions

System is already scanned regularly with multiple tools. It comes back clean.
Going to try the steps here next

Well if your system had previously had malware on it that you already cleaned, try a new profile.bobwalksdownthestreet wrote:System is already scanned regularly with multiple tools. It comes back clean.

No, that's the whole point, the machine does not and hasn't had malware on it.

Re: NS popups not working and sites failing silently
So something is corrupted in the current settings.
1) I installed latest dev version, restarted FF, but no joy
2) exported settings
3) did reset on NoScript and restarted FF, back to the normal yellow bar along the bottom that allows me to chose the settings script block/allow settings for the site.
4) imported settings, restarted FF, back to issue of it not working correctly
Any tips on how to troubleshoot the settings that may affect this issue?
Is there a process where I say
1) take exported config file, break it into 4, and import each section individually after doing a reset between each import and see which section causes the problem to occur.
That brings up the question, what's the minimum that's needed in the file for the import to be successful? Header and footer and what else?
2) some other systematic troubleshooting method?

Re: NS popups not working and sites failing silently
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the issue...
I think it'd be easiest to help you if we have a copy of this corrupted config file, but you're not registered...
Can you pleaseregister here and PM me the config?
If not: if you are already registered on mozillaZine Forums, please PM me the config there (I'm barbaz there too); otherwise.. I don't know if you are OK with publicly posting your NS config, even temporarily...
(We could move it to the staff-only section of the board as soon as we see it, if you want.)

Re: NS popups not working and sites failing silently
The issue is that the yellow bar with the options button no longer shows up on ANY websites, so sites that need temporary or permanent script allowances don't work.
With a reset clean config, it works normally. With my whitelist imported it works normally.
Between the exported clean configuration and exported configuration with the issue, there exists a configuration entry that's either corrupted or set incorrectly stopping me from getting the yellow bar to allow me to adjust settings.
I'll setup an MZ account and PM you the config shortly.

No need to set up a mozillaZine account, I got the PM's here, checking in a moment...

Well, this issue is caused by that your notification pref is backwards. Fix:bobwalksdownthest wrote:The issue is that the yellow bar with the options button no longer shows up on ANY websites, so sites that need temporary or permanent script allowances don't work.

NoScript Options > Notifications, check 'Show notifications about blocked scripts'
But I'm still not clear on whether this is the only problem you're having with NoScript that you asked about in this thread? Is there something else I should be looking for / trying to diagnose?

Re: NS popups not working and sites failing silently
barbaz,
I have the same problem.
NS will silenly block a site.
And I can only get the NS icon in the add on tool bar at the bottom.
I would prefer the NS options on right.
Can I PM you my config?
thanks
gordon

Sure, but I'm going to need clarification / more information about your issue before I can get anywhere with it.gordon55y wrote:Can I PM you my config?
What do you mean by "NS options on right"?
Firefox has no addon bar... so what other extensions do you have that would do something with toolbars, and how have you configured them? Screenshot of your Firefox setup please?
