Re: NoScript causes "Address Not Found" at first connection

No, never used a proxy, but to be sure I looked in Internet Options (IE8) where "use a proxy server for this connection" is unticked and in Fx Options/Advanced/Network/Connection Settings where there is a check mark against "no proxy". In Internet Options/Connections, "Always dial my default connection" is ticked.

FF proxies would be separate from IE proxies. (FF) Tools | Options | Network -> Settings

What other "protections" software do you have installed? A/V, Firewall, ...

Side note, did you check if the problem persists with latest development build 1.9.5.73?

Thanks for asking about the proxy. I posted a reply (successfully, according to the forum) several hours ago but it's not showing here for some reason. Anyway, while I went into some detail in that last post, the short answer is no, definitely no proxy involved!

Cheers

Well my previous post about proxies is showing after all - just didn't think to check that we're now on page 2!!

Giorgio: I did try the latest development build yesterday & it didn't help.
Having said that, when using that build, I had not reinstalled Fx - only did
that today. Is it worth giving the new build another shot?

@therube: my OS & software details are XP Home with SP3, AVG Free,
Windows Defender & Sunbelt Personal Firewall. For on-demand scanning
I also use SpyBot S&D (but not tea-timer or immunize functions), Super
AntiSpyware and Malwarebytes anti-malware. I ran a quick scan with
MBAM in case an infection has been involved but it came up clean. Could
run other scans but there's really nothing to suggest it's malware-related.

Sunbelt is configured the same way I had it before the current problem
arose: for Firefox in both Trusted & Internet Zones "out" is permitted, "in" denied. Same as for IE. I did try temporarily permitting "out" for Firefox in both zones, but no improvement.

Thank you both for your continuing time & interest!

When you tried "NoScript only", was AVG linkscanner extension disabled as well?

When installing AVG (8.5) I chose not to install the Linkscanner component. Checking the AVG interface confirms that AVG Search-Shield & Link Scanner components are absent, nor do I have the AVG Security Toolbar.

Hi Giorgio

Just to finish off after our exchanges back in July: I tried reinstalling the NoScript add-on each time Firefox was updated but never got anywhere: couldn't even connect to the internet via Firefox if NoScript was installed.

However, NoScript is now working perfectly! - possibly because I have recently uninstalled AVG and switched to Microsoft Security Essentials. When I did have AVG, Link Scanner was not installed with it, so it shouldn't really have been a problem for NoScript... but whatever the reason, it's great to have NoScript working again. Thanks for a great product.
