[Unrelated]Firefox 38.0 crashed with NoScript 2.6.9.22 enabl

Post by Dangthrimble »

My Windows Firefox has just been updated to 38.0 and, on starting, it crashed. I disabled all addons then added them back one at at time, shutting down then starting Firefox between each. The first enabled addon was NoScript, then HTTPS-Everywhere then Privacy Badger. With those three, Firefox crashed. Disabled them all then re-enabled Privacy Badger. Shut down and started Firefox; no crash. Enabled NoScript. Shut down and started Firefox; crash. Disabled Privacy Badger and re-enabled a number of other addons. Shut down and started Firefox; crash. Disabled NoScript. Shut down and started Firefox; no crash.

As a result of my analysis to date I am running Firefox with NoScript disabled and the following addons enabled:
Adblock Edge 2.1.9
DownThemAll! 2.0.18
HTTPS-Everywhere 5.0.4
Markdown Viewer 1.8
PassIFox 1.1.13
Privacy Badger Firefox 0.1.4
Self-Destructing Cookies 0.4.7
Tab Mix Plus 0.4.1.7

Looks like it might be a problem with Firefox 38.0 after all. Tried to access a web site and Firefox reported plugin container had stopped. Disabled all addons and Firefox still crashed!

mbae.dll is part of the Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit installation. Currently have version 1.06.1.1019 installed. Have stopped protection. Will enable Firefox addons and see how they perform.

Firefox keeps crashing before I can enable any other addons. Will uninstall Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit, reboot and see how things go.

about:crashes, what are the last few crash report URLs?

Any change if you restart in Safe Mode?

Is the NoScript .xpi have the word "signed" in its name?

Firefox still crashes. Will disable all addons again and see whether it is just an issue with Firefox.

Most crashes have occurred before I attempt to access any URL.

Firefox seems stable in safe mode.

Where will I find the xpi? I can't find an obvious NoScript xpi in %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

With all extensions disabled, Firefox appears to be stable.

The Troubleshooting Information page currently lists NoScript as:

Looking at the recent crash reports, one common element in all bar one crashing thread is rookscom.dll which it appears is part of Rapport. Have uninstalled that, re-enabled a collection of extensions and opened a slew of web pages. Everything currently looks stable. Will leave Firefox running overnight to see what happens...

Trusteer Rapport is a known crasher of (FF of) late.
There was a recent, oh, perhaps a couple weeks ago, update to it, that (seemingly) fixed crashes it was causing.
If you have that last update & if there is no other update, then maybe with the change from FF 37 to 38, its at it again?

(Norton [A/V] was another that was causing issues of late [few weeks back] in FF.)

Same problem on another PC. :( Uninstalled Trusteer Rapport and everything settled down. :) Not a problem with NoScript. :D

Downloaded and installed latest copy of Trusteer Rapport (3.5.1404.94) from IBM (in case I wasn't using the latest version) which started Firefox which subsequently crashed. So, yes, I have the latest version and it is crashing Firefox!
