no script warning on firefox about:home

Post by FIREFOXED »

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14325

Why do i get the about:home page blocked like above and what do i do to stop it happening permanently

Above says it comes from coming from geo.mozilla.org. where do i see that?

Why does it only happen occassionally

also on google.ie. But that must be whitelisted to surf?

other pages run with scripts currently forbidden but not about:home

Because there's script from mozilla.org there?
FIREFOXED wrote:what do i do to stop it happening permanently
Meaning what?
Please be more specific.
FIREFOXED wrote:Above says it comes from coming from geo.mozilla.org. where do i see that?
.. you mean NoScript Options > Appearance, check 'Full Domains' ?
FIREFOXED wrote:Why does it only happen occassionally

?
FIREFOXED wrote:other pages run with scripts currently forbidden but not about:home
Again, please be more specific. What do you mean "run"? In exactly what way does about:home not "run"? And with exactly what script(s) forbidden?

"what do i do to stop it happening permanently"

When scripts blocked the about:home search page will not open. if i put a search term in the search box and click search the page will not change to the google results

https://hackademix.net/2014/11/19/avast ... -noscript/ runs by which i mean it works and links work while words scripts currently forbidden are at bottom of page

other pages work an links work if scripts partially allowed are at bottom

But the about :home search box will not respond to the search if clicked when the script block comes up. I have to allow it. I want to allow it permanently or better have it run and work with scripts blocked

Hope i explained it not v good with scripts. Thanks

Yes thanks that's much clearer.

So about:home is Allowed but mozilla.org is Forbidden when this occurs?

If so, that sounds like probably a job for a surrogate script. No time for trying to come up with one now, but if no one else replies through tomorrow I'll try to set up a Fx 36 test environment to investigate.

about:home search works just fine for me, with scripts blocked.

Does it help if you whitelist geo.mozilla.org?

It's run by Mozilla, the same people who made Firefox. Do you trust the people who made Firefox, a software which you installed on your computer and are using to connect to the Internet? ;)

(I think you might want to re-phrase that...)

I think geo.mozilla.org is Mozilla's geolocation server. I'd be able to say more when I look at the script(s).

Done. Remember to log in so you don't need to solve the CAPTCHA every time and so you keep getting email notifications if you subscribed to this topic.

GeoIP server is either to track where users are or to tell you where it thinks some IP (usually yours) is.
So yes.

OK i will have to wait until it happens again on the about:home page to ask about it. I will see if there are any error messages. The about:home page should work even when scripts are blocked shouldn't it?

Can GeoIP server be disabled? If it is that how does it only happen now and again?

Finally tested this...

Does for me in completely default NoScript configuration, NoScript latest development build, Firefox 36.0.4 (I'm assuming you're on Fx 36.0.4?). Type a search, hit Enter, goes to a search page. Buttons on bottom seem functional too.

Clarify these questions please? I thought you were asking about the terminology...

Oh, you mean the mozilla.org script doesn't always show up. Probably related to which 'snippet' they try to show you.

Yes if that is what causes it
I have all snippets removed see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1037833
But I still do not understand why the page will not open the search at all when the script is blocked. Other pages load and it says scripts blocked or partially blocked

Again, it did for me. Does allowing the mozilla.org script actually make it work for you?

Does disabling all extensions other than NoScript get it working? (Tools > Add-ons Manager)

Please create a clean profile from scratch. Install only NoScript latest development build, leaving all the defaults.
Does the problem still exist?
If not, what if you then import your NS settings into the clean profile using the Import and Export buttons *on the very bottom* of NS Options?
If that still doesn't reproduce the problem, NoScript is not the culprit... try Standard Diagnostic (leaving NS enabled) to isolate and correct the real cause.

Let us know, thanks.
