Firefox and search suggestions in weird locations

Post by dudepron »

I have confirmed this happens only with noscript installed.
There are times usually after sleeping or not using the browser window for a period of time that when I got to type in either the address bar or the search bar the search suggestions come up in a window that is detached from the area I am typing in (address bar or search bar). If I do a search and then do another one, the suggestions are in the correct place. This is similar to if you have the browser window low on the screen and the suggestions go above the browser window so you can see what is available instead of it scrolling off the bottom of the screen. I will post a picture the next time it happens.

OSX 10.10.2
Firefox 35.0.1 (seen on previous releases)
Noscript 2.9.6.12 (and seen on previous releases)

This is frustrating and detracting.

Are you sure NoScript is causing the issue and not just the messenger of an existing problem?

Try disabling hardware acceleration in the browser?

I do not believe it is hw acceleration as I have removed noscript and it appeared to have stopped with no other changes. I can try disabling HW acceleration.

I do have screen capture of the issue that I can share.

Yes but your issue sounds like a GPU cache issue.. which NoScript (or any other overlay extension, for that matter) would make it worse while not being the cause of the problem

I have confirmed that gpu acceleration is off.

Is there any way to verify a gpu cache issue? I would be surprised that this issue hasn't been reported more.

Does disabling OS X window animations help?
(Terminal, type the following: )

Code: Select all

defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSAutomaticWindowAnimationsEnabled -bool NO
If you want to change that back, you can revert by entering the following command in Terminal:

Code: Select all

defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSAutomaticWindowAnimationsEnabled -bool YES
(just changing the NO to YES)

I guess the next thing is to force my macbook to just use the on-cpu graphics. That would help in figuring out if it is related to video card swapping.
