delta release notes

Post by filbo »

Hi,

When NS updates itself and opens https://noscript.net/?ver=2.6.9.9&prev=2.6.9.5, please visually mark those notes which are new since 2.6.9.5.

I actually read them. Every time it updates, I am irked to have read halfway into the next item or two before I realize -- oh yeah, I've already seen these! If enough time has passed between updates, I might get 3 or 4 items into the list.

I was actually redirected to "&prev=2.6.9.8", but intentionally post an example with more versions in between: this facility really should be prepared for any level of tardiness, and do the right thing. Including if "ver=2.6.9.7", in which case it should show "forward" notes as well.

Output might look like:

===== start of mockup =====

THESE NOTES ARE FOR VERSIONS NEWER THAN THE ONE YOU HAVE UPDATED TO:

... notes for 2.6.9.9, 2.6.9.8

NOTES FOR 2.6.9.7 (the version you have updated to), 2.6.9.6:

... those notes

NOTES for 2.6.9.5 and earlier:

... all the rest of the notes

===== end of mockup =====

Thanks!

NS is awesome. Keep up the good work.

Those are general notes.

I always go here, https://noscript.net/changelog.

Your link just 302's me to http://noscript.net/? (no, it's not because my fake user-agent confusing the script. Also, no 302 installing latest dev build on a clean profile.)

Just once, got it working though, with prevVersion 2.6.9.8, and it gave me a page that appeared to be featuring an ad for some Mac cleaning software with some incomplete NoScript changelog (which seemed to ignore prevVersion, as the OP said) in a little sidebar on the right...

Giorgio, I think that page would be more informative if it actually took note of version and prevVersion and displayed the relevant part of the actual changelog (everything between prevVersion and version) in the center and the ad on the far right (just scrap the existing sidebar)... as it is, I feel it's easy to mistake that page for a pop-up ad of sorts...
(If no prevVersion.. maybe show the features page?)

That's some misbehavior of the forum software here. Here's the same URL twice, first without and then with forum URL markup:

https://noscript.net/?ver=2.6.9.9&prev=2.6.9.5
https://noscript.net/?ver=2.6.9.9&prev=2.6.9.5

If you click the live link, you get that redirection. If you copy-paste the text, avoiding all whacky manipulation by the forum software, you'll see what I always see...

... which is pretty much that. It's a thinned-out, dumbed-down "features only" changelog. Which is OK, I just want it to pay attention to the ver= and prev= args to focus attention on what actually changed for the user.

(To note, copy-pasting the link got it working consistently here now. Guess it just doesn't like referrer headers...)
