Cannot Download At All From Youtube
Cannot Download At All From Youtube
O/S = Win 8.1; Fx = 30.0.
Dear Folk:
I am completely unable to download anything at all from Youtube with Flashgot. I can download at some other sites -- e.g., videos and full length movies (no problem) from the Imagefap video sites -- but Youtube stops me from downloading anything at all with Flashgot. Same problem at the Guardian UK site -- can't download "any" videos -- even when the Guardian does not own the copyright.
Let us break this down:
1. I shall use "any" one of the Imagefap,com video sites as a starting point. Here is the sequence of a successful download:
a. I start the video/movie;
b. I right-click on either the left or right-hand side of the playing video;
c. The pop-up menu reads "FlashGot Media (1);"
d. I click on "FlashGot Media (1);"
e. The movie/clip downloads straight away -- never a problem. And it does not make any difference which download manager I use (Fx Built-in or FDM).
2. Here is the sequence or any and all Youtube downloads, all of which have been singularly unsuccessful:
a. I start the video/movie;
b. I right-click on either the left or right-hand side of the playing video;
c. The pop-up menu reads "FlashGot Media (13) or (21) 0r (22) -- always a BIG number;"
d. I click on "FlashGot Media (13) or (21) 0r (22), or whatever;"
e. Nothing at all happens -- no download, nothing, nyada, nichevo, nichts. BUPKE!
WHAT am I doing incorrectly?
Thanks. I am sure the answer is simple; Giorgio doesn't' release add-ons unless he knows first that they work as described. I must be doing something incorrectly. Please help me to correct what I am doing so that I can make successful downloads from Youtube.
NOTE: I am a bit puzzled over why, on sites from which I can successfully download with FlashGot, I am presented with "FlashGot Media (1), whereas, on sites with respect to which I am entirely unsuccessful in downloading anything at all, I Get, on my pop-up menu "FlashGot Media (xxxx - anywhere from 10 to twenty-something inside the parentheses.)
Best regards and thanks,
Nuncus

Re: Cannot Download At All From Youtube
The "big number" just means that FlashGot has detected multiple formats for the movie you're watching.
If you're using the Built-in download manager (which should be the default), once you click you should be offered a selector to choose whether download all the formats or just some/one.
If you're using an external download manager, this might be more problematic and you may want to use right-click on the FlashGot Media flashing icon and choose the format frm there.
Is this your case? if so, which download manager are you using? Notice that you can setup a download manager for your "ordinary" downloads and a different one for FlashGot Media, if you wish.

Re: Cannot Download At All From Youtube
So are you saying some of the imagefap videos are actually simply hotlinked from Youtube?
How about a URL (purposely break the link cause it looks to be NSFW) to one?

Win 8.1; FlashGot = 1.5.6.5rcl
Dear Giorgio:
Thanks for Responding.
On the FlashGot toolbar button I have the following selections on the drop down list box:
1. pyLoad - is checked
2. (Browser built in) - is UNchecked
3. Autostart downloads - is checked
4. Include images found in current page - is UNchecked
5. More Options...
6. About FlashGot 1.5.6.5rcl
7. Visit Extension home page
A. First, what is pyLoad? Is this part of FlashGot?
B. If I click (Lft Bttn) on pyLoad, I get an error message box that states
"pyLoad is not responding on http://127.0.0.1:9666/flashgot.
Please check your firewall settings and the pyLoad Configuration for the 'Click and Load' plugin.
Or try to restart pyLoad or the device itself (pyLoad may not be responding properly after some
time)
>> pyLoad is not listed in the Windows Firewall apps
>> pyLoad is NOT listed in my Mozilla plugins
>> Searching for pyLoad in Windows 8.1 produces 'no results'.
C. If I change the default in FlashGot More Options to "(browser built in)", and try to download the video or clip from Youtube, I get the result that "nothing happens".
I am at no time presented with a selector -- or anything else -- after I click to download the media. Nothing happens; I receive no response of any kind at all, and my click to download is simply ignored.
I am completely baffled. Why does FlashGot work effortlessly and successfully -- every time -- on a site like imagefap.com but seems simply to be ignored at Youtube.com?
Where do I start? Do I need to download some plugin from somewhere called "pyLoad"? Do I need to download Python from somewhere? I had Python on my old XP machine; if I need to download and install Python for this new Windows 8.1 machine, then can you tell me where to go in order to obtain it? If I don't need it, then I won't go get it.
Giorgio, I am just walking around in LaLa Land on this one, I'm afraid. What do I do here?
I was using a download manager on the old XP machine (FDM); but I haven't felt the need to use a download manager on the new Win 8.1 machine inasmuch as the internet connection is much faster now. If I need to use one, just tell me.
Thanks for any guidance you can give here.
Best regards,
Nuncus

I can tell you that you can ignore Pyload. It's an optional download manager, that appears on the list even if you don't have it (search the forum if you're curious to know why).

I still don't understand the relationship between imagefap & youtube?
If there is a particular imagefap page, post it (break the link if its nsfw).
- OK, none.

If there is a particular guardian page, post it.

Re: Cannot Download At All From Youtube
As other said, first of all open FlashGot Options and ensure both in General and in FlashGot Media the selected download manager is the one labeled as "(Browser Built in)".
At that point, when you are on a Youtube page, watch for the flashging FlashGot Media icon (most likely appearing in the navigation bar) and right click it to select the format you prefer to download.

You should be sent the (13) or (21) or ... links to your download manager (or browser built-in).
Context-menu | FlashGot Media acts the same as left-clicking the FlashGot Media (I'm going to say taskbar, but I guess it could be anywhere in FF) icon, which would rummage up all (13) or (21) or ... links & send them on.
In the case of Youtube, it is almost a necessity that you use the FlashGot Media icon, right-click (not left) & select the particular file(s) format that you want. (Context menu will be less then optimum.) [With Youtube, you also need to be aware of Dash, audio separate from video, or non-Dash, 1 clip containing both audio & video.]
(What a gawd awful browser FF is!)
