[Resolved] Facebook Buggered?

Post by TheScottMans »

Recently Facebook stopped working correctly and after hours of trial/error I tracked it down to NoScript. I have tried "allow scripts globally" but FaceBook still comes up with a blank content. The only way to get FB to load properly is with NOScript completely disabled.

For reference I'm using FireFox 28.0 on MacBook Pro OS 10.6.8 with other FlashBlock, AdBlockPro, and other extensions including Social Fixer for FB. NS version 2.6.8.39

FB works fine with all other extensions loaded, only NoScript causing "empty" pages. Can anyone verify if this is a bug needing attention in NS, or has FB changed their code so badly that it is no longer compatible with NS.

URLs to pages that come up empty?

Any [noscript] noted messages in Error Console?

If you keep NoScript enabled but disable all other extensions, does the problem persist?

NB Lots of other people are still using Facebook with NoScript, so there must be something about the specific configuration you're using.

Yes, I have tested with disabling EVERYTHING else, including setting all plug-ins to "never activate" and FB is still blank!! If nobody else is complaining, I agree, it is something with my set-up. However, i am at a loss how to track this down. I have had to deactivate NS for weeks now because I can't do FB otherwise. This seriously compromises my security and I really need to find a fix. Any suggestions or troubleshooting steps MOST welcome.

Just to recap, I have disabled EVERY extension and plug-in except NS and FB only loads "blank" pages. I wish I could submit a screenshot but don't know how on this forum. I have tried clearing the cach, cookies, etc - still no FB content. The only "extra" running is NS. There must be something in my NS config. but this just happened a couple weeks ago, and before it was all fine.

One last thing I can think of, I will "reset" NS and see if that helps...

HEY! I reset NoScript and found this was the problem. Finally tracked it down to some script being blocked from akama... something or other on FB. Don't know what the full site was because it's gone now that i "unblocked" it, however whatever that was it was preventing me from getting FB.

So problem solved! I think. I hope.... let's see how it goes. Thanks for the feedback.

Even in 'Scripts Globally Allowed' mode, if you have marked a site as Untrusted, it will still be blocked, by design.

Akamai is a content delivery network; Facebook uses them to deliver portions of the site. So yes, blocking it would have broken Facebook quite thoroughly.
