Hello,
I am trying to download the audio of a mix I can't get anywhere but on youtube. I am able to download the files no problem, the videos work and the webm audio files work, unfortunately for me however I am only after the mp4 files as they can be opened by both vlc and itunes and these files appear to be broken. When opened in itunes it shows no information except for the title and an 'unknown' bitrate and a 'not available' track length, and additionally the audio does not play. When opened in vlc the player acts as it does for most broken files and refuses to play. I tried to flashget the audio within a few videos and had the same problem of all files working great except for the mp4 files (large, medium or small). I find this all very confusing as I can't work out why would this problem be isolated to one format. I should also note that these mp4 files, as shown in the flashgot DASH section, are called .m4a when downloaded to my mac. I attempted to change the filename to mp4 in a last effort to see if that changes anything, but still the same problem. I recognise that I could convert the webm files to another audio file (probably m4a or mp3) but that would require me to download another program, plus I would rather not need to convert the files.
Thanks in advance for the help, and forgive me if I have made some stupid mistake somewhere.
Cheers

Re: Corrupt audio file?
URLs?
Sounds like the (mp3) files are corrupt.
It's not unknown for Youtube to house corrupt files.
VLC should play the webm (ogg or whatever they may be) just fine.
(No clue about itunes.)
.m4a is fine & expected.
And if it happened to be, or if you renamed it .mp4, that should be fine too & immaterial.

Re: Corrupt audio file?
Here are some links I tried this morning. The same problem for both and every other video I have tried. The webm files work and so do the videos but not mp4.

I originally tested webm files in vlc as it's the only program I have that can open them on my computer that I am aware of. This file format has little use to me as I cant add it to itunes nor can I convert it with my xld audio converter... I'm hesitant to commit to another program and to make this process require two programs to grab the audio.
Cheers

What download manager are you using?
Your first link, I downloaded all the (Dash) .m4a varieties, small, medium, & large & they all play for me.

So ... so what's going on on your end?
Is your VLC current? If not, possible that it cannot recognize Dash m4a.

Re: Corrupt audio file?
I'm using the default browser built in downloader.
My vlc player may be old, as I don't remember updating anytime recently... It is version 1.1.9.
I have opened m4a files with vlc before and just checked again and other m4a files I have open perfectly in both vlc and itunes.
Thanks for bearing with me here, something seems to be wrong on my end.

Re: Corrupt audio file?
Other m4a are not necessarily Dash.
Update VLC & see what you get.
