Noobie enhancement request, Fx 31 NS 2.6.8.36

Post by dwarfplanet9 »

I am relatively new at using NS, and I would like to submit a feature request, or to be told how NS already does what I'm looking for.

I have found that most sites I visit work fine without every single script enabled for that page, duh. But I find it hard to recall which sites are working fine even though many scripts used by that site are blocked. I am looking for a way to let me see that in the past, I have gotten a specific site to work as I desire, even though several, if not many of its scripts are blocked.

If this isn't clear, I provide this example. Suppose I visit site www.goofy-site.com, and I see the NS options button appear at the bottom of my FF window. After allowing scripts from https://www.goofy-site.com and from xxyzz.cdn.cloudfront.com, I get the goofy-site working to my satisfaction. Some many days later, i return to goofy-site.com, and because I have not allowed all scripts from that site, the NS options button appears again on my FF window. It would be really useful if I could have some way of knowing that I considered goofy-site.com to be working, with some scripts disabled, on my most recent visit. Knowing that could potentially save me a lot of time on subsequent visits, and reduce the temptation to "temporarily allow all scripts on this page."

Does this make sense to anyone besides me? I'm happy to explain more if needed, or to be silent if I've over shared ;)

I really appreciate the time and effort that has gone into NS. I am concerned with security and I believe that NS is the most valuable tool in my addon arsenal. Thanks so much for providing this complex yet easy to use addon. I plan to be donating to the cause, hopefully enough to do more than just buy a beer or two.

Thanks,

That's the whole point of using Allow instead of Temporarily-Allow...
Then NS will remember the right permissions for you, so you can just ignore the scripts blocked notification on future visits to the goofy site and the site will work fine for you.
What more do you need?

It's an interesting idea. One approach would be: if a site is worth giving permanent permissions, then it's probably also worth bookmarking. Then, if a site is on your bookmark list, you can assume it will work unless proven otherwise.

Don't forget also the Untrusted submenu. If you're confident that you never want to trust a particular domain, then you can mark it as untrusted, and it will disappear from the regular menu, which can help to keep things clean.

True religion, which dares to acknowledge death and challenge the way we live, is an attempt to wake up.
