[RESOLVED] Crafty Syntax Live Help Breaks with NoScript

Post by ampersun »

Crafty Syntax Live Help ver 3.4.0 breaks with the NoScript Extension ver. 2.6.4.2 in Fireox 17.0.1

Crafty Syntax opens (locally on my PC) but it cannot communicate (i.e. visitors on site, or send status of Crafty operators, etc) on Blog Site.
Blog site is fully operational but it does not display my Live Help images, nor does the site report or receive communications from my Live Help on my server.

NoScript installed with defaults and very little changes to configuration.

Whitelisted with Options>Whitelist>Allow ... localhost, 127.0.0.1, blog site, no-ip.org.
Also performed Options>Allow All This Page! ... no love!

Checked operation of Crafty from another browser that is not operating NoScript and there were no issues.

Disabled NoScript in Firefox and then checked operation and received no issues.

Is there some setting I am missing, something I am not performing properly?
How do I get my Live Help operational under NoScript?

In part, this kind of points me in the right direction? Will now try to find a replacement... so sad!

Don't do that! NoScript has never bundled a toolbar to the best of my knowledge - that must have been a coincidence on Dorothy's machine - it certainly doesn't now, and the ABP vs NS fiasco was sorted out and apologised for years ago (did you read Giorgio's apology?).

If you're running a local server, then you are probably running into ABE. Check the Error Console (Ctrl+Shift+J, or Firefox Tools > Web Developer > Error Console) for any messages about requests to LOCAL being blocked, and if you find them, please copy and paste here.

You might have difficulty getting them past the spam filter...if so, then please send them to a moderator via private message.

That article from 2009 is ridiculous in saying that NS installed a toolbar. Many other applications do install crapware when you download them, so undoubtedly NS was blamed for something installed by something else.

The issue with ABP was resolved shortly thereafter, with all parties kissing and making up, so to speak.
You can disable the showing of release notes on update if it pleases you.

As for your issue: Please create a clean profile from scratch. Install only NoScript, leaving all the defaults.
Does the problem still exist? If not, NoScript is not the culprit.

Try adding back your extensions, one at a time, until you find the one that causes the issue.
Then remove all the others, pairing only the suspected one with NoScript, to confirm that the remaining one is the issue.
If the problem is solved even with all add-ons reinstalled, then the previous profile was probably corrupt. Problem solved.

Let us know, thanks.

ETA: Looks as though Thrawn and I cross-posted.

It has been a while since I visited this page, but thought I would update on solution to the issue. I simply switched from Crafty Syntax over to Mibew Messenger (also called webim for Web IM). No problems encountered with install or use. Mibew provides all that Crafty did with no glitches so far and I have been running it ever since I first posted here. Mibew is free and opensource with no nags whatsoever! Runs with noscript (just allow and Mibew runs smootly)! I can interact with visitors to my site and hold direct peer connections with ease. Thanks for the help by the way with my intial request although the change to Mibew was the correct choice in my case.
