Noscript weird menu location

Post by Lurion »

Greets!

I've noticed that NoScript will sometimes place its menu at strange locations. Basically I would expect it to appear right above the noscript icon in the addon bar, and most of the time the menu will be placed correctly. But at times it gets placed well above the icon. I've even seen it overlap the addon bar a few times. It seems to happen randomly, but I think it happens when I open up the menu while the website is still loading. I'm using Firefox v31.0 with the classic theme restorer 1.2.2 addon that I've used to get the addon bar back. My Noscript is configured to click the icon for the menu to appear (mouse over is disabled).

NoScript has no control on the submenus placement (it's up to Firefox's XUL engine), but it might be either a browser bug or a bad interaction with another add-on or theme.

(EDIT this post used to be a link to other topic where I had previously reported it. i've deleted the other topic as it only had the one post, which i'll quote it here to keep this issue on one thread.)
NS 2.6.8.26rc1
STR:
go to http://www.realhouseradio.com/-archive-.html, Temp-Allow "realhouseradio.out.airtime.pro"
once the page has reloaded, open the menu again.
I've got the icon in the addon bar and the menu appeared way above the icon.

Also on that site, you'll notice that the NS infobar shows the temp-allowed script as "http://realhouseradio.out.airtime.pro:8000" instead of the domain only. Why?

While this seems to be an identical problem, that thread has no replies and does not provide a solution.
I will attempt to test this out with a new FF profile to exclude the possibility of interference with other addons.

This occurs even in Firefox pre-australis and Seamonkey.

Yeah, I just tested it with a new Firefox profile (FF v30.0, Linux Mint) with no addons except Noscript, and an "addon-bar" addon like "Classic Theme Restorer" or "The Addon Bar (restored)". It would seem that when the noscript icon is placed near the location bar in the top toolbar, this bug does not occur. It only happens when the noscript icon is placed in the addon bar. Seemingly this also happens in pre-australis builds.

To reproduce:
  • Create a new firefox profile
  • Download the addons: NoScript, The Addon Bar (restored)
  • Restart firefox in the same profile
  • Go to http://www.realhouseradio.com/-archive-.html and let the page load
  • Temporarily allow realhouseradio.com and let the page fully reload
  • Temporarily allow businesscatalyst.com and let the page fully reload
  • Click the NoScript icon in the bottom addon bar, and the menu will be flaoting

Bump.

Can anything be done about this? It seems also to affect the ability to mouse over the menu items.

Hit this topic in my subscription list and realized I haven't seen this issue lately.
I cannot reproduce it with NoScript latest development build & SeaMonkey 2.32.1 following any the given series of steps in this thread.

Anyone else still seeing this?

I'm still seeing this a lot on FF 36.0.1 and NoScript 2.6.9.18. Haven't tested the dev build yet...

EDIT: Just tested it on a brand new FF profile with the dev build 2.6.9.19rc1, and it still happens to me. I had to customize noscript a bit i.e. disable the auto-menu popup on mouseover, and Left clicking on Noscript toolbar button toggles... I also disabled the message popups about blocked scripts. Then repeat the steps I mentioned previously, and the menu will float again. I'm gonna browse a bit with this profile to see, if it happens on other websites as well.

EDIT 2: It would seem that for each new site I temporarily allow on a particular website (i.e. rt.com), the menu will move up one slot higher from the bottom next time I open it.
