[RESOLVED] Is NoScript portable?

Hello everyone,

I have read the FAQ and searched the forums, but I did not find an answer....

I would like to use the NoScript extension on the portable version of Firefox (29.0.1) I have installed from PortableApps.com.

Can NoScript be installed on a portable device (USB stick)?

Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer: Try it and see.

As long as you have a legitimately certified portable copy of Firefox, such as the one found at PortableApps.com and you install NoScript inside of that by going through the usual installation process, then absolutely. I use it msyelf and it works just fine, always has. But if you are installing Firefox on a removable drive and thinking that makes it portable, then prepare to face a lot of issues - and not just with NoScript.

Thanks for replying. However, when you answered you should have noted that you and I use different operating systems (OS) - yours is "Ubuntu", mine is "Windows Vista". I cannot try and see if NoScript is portable because I have too little knowledge of computers and applications. I would not know what to look for, e.g. does NoScript write anything on the host computer - if yes, where.

Thank you for a useful reply - I feel safe enough to try. But, I think I will ask the developer (Giorgio Maone) and see if he replies, just to be sure. Maybe he will mention that NoScript is portable in the FAQ - it would be good for users to know, I would say.

If the developer replies, I will make a note in this thread/topic.

All the data NoScript persists goes in the browser's user-specific profile.
Since PortableApps' Firefox places your profile in the removable device, you're golden, meaning that yes, NoScript is portable.

The whole point of senior moderator staff supporting the site is that the developer doesn't waste time on mundane questions that have been answered based on collective experience that far exceeds yours or the average user. So I am sure Giorgio will appreciate that he had to waste his time answering a question that was answered by two senior staff so you could feel better about it.
