Hellow all
I'm an owner of small family business, the small internet-shop. My website contain no advertising, no banners, no one thing that is not releted to my own website/business. And this business is clear and legal - art stencils manufacturing.
I'm glad to observe that Mozilla Firefox loses market share to Chrome and other less paranoidal browsers, but it still from 10 to 20 % of visitors. I hope that not all of them so paranoic to install this harmful feature named "NoScript". I'm trying to exlain customers to switch from Mozilla to other browsers but it still, still up to 17%.
Why I'm saying so? Because standard settings on NoScript makes my webshop completely dead in Mozilla - buttons like "add to basket" operates using scripts and it is impossible to avoid this (my products has quite complicated parameters, not just quantity and price).
And settings of NoScript wou't help - vy customers by 99% are not hackers and even not advanced users. Often the even not usual users - they trust what browsers says or wbat paparnic IT man says (for IT man it is much more easy to deny all than to explore what is harmful and wnat is not). The will NEVER, NEVER touch any "settimgs". You know it much better than I.
So, the question is: the advocacy and agitation against Mozilla and NoScript is the only way to make my site working in this browser? Or there are some ways to get into the list of trusted sites which are allowed by default? Or add some markers to scripts? Or install some certificate?
Please advise.

Re: NoScript kills everything, not recommended
My thought is, & I could be wrong, that a NoScript user is going to be somewhat "techy" & by using NoScript they are familiar & expectant that some things won't work on some sites. And that over time they come to learn what they need to allow to get things to work.
I would think that someone not at least a little techy would not like NoScript & would stop using it shortly after trying it. It is just something "not for them".
So unless your site is so totally weird-ed out, I would expect that most users should be able to work through getting it to work properly.
And if still having trouble, if they Allowed Globally, you would think that to be sufficient?
I could not see a non-techy person using NoScript.
I would not recommend NoScript to a non-techy person, to one who just expects "things to work".

This is lack of logic... If you are more or less "technical" that mean you have the best antivirus - your brain. I'm technical "more or less", I have no need to use any "noscripts" because noscript in my head. During 20 year of using internet and other networks, I gon no one virus and no one card/password was stolen from me.
The problem is that IT guys in many companies as well as home made "IT advisers" install such adons to the simple users PCs...

You have been very lucky.TRAFARET.NET wrote: During 20 year of using internet and other networks, I gon no one virus and no one card/password was stolen from me.
I have a similar cautious approach, and was unable to prevent the installation of a "drive-by" virus by scripting injected into a web page (one hosted by a top ten internet company) some years ago.
NoScript prevents this happening.
Surely not the fault of NoScript - or Firefox? The problem is that IT guys in many companies as well as home made "IT advisers" install such adons to the simple users PCs...

Agreed. Took me only 5 hours of normal browsing to get malware on a computer running IE.Hecuba's daughter wrote:You have been very lucky.TRAFARET.NET wrote: During 20 year of using internet and other networks, I gon no one virus and no one card/password was stolen from me.

(My own computer, which has SeaMonkey+NS, remains clean despite going to those same sites repeatedly.)
Users of NoScript will either know what JavaScript is, or have easy contact with someone who does know and can help with problems. So maybe you could add to your site, a <noscript> element containing a prominent message saying that the site needs JavaScript enabled in order to work properly?
*Always* check the changelogs BEFORE updating that important software!

My $0.02:
My workplace operates a payment gateway for government websites. Including a shopping cart, which different government agencies can add to their pages with just a snippet of code. And it works without JavaScript. You get a better experience with JavaScript, but it's not essential.
Now, I'm sure that government has spent more money on this than you have, so you may not see it as a fair comparison. I'm just saying, It can be done.
By the way, if there are no objections, I'm going to move this discussion to NoScript General.

My grandmother is currently using it. But she doesn't know she is...therube wrote: I could not see a non-techy person using NoScript.
I would not recommend NoScript to a non-techy person, to one who just expects "things to work".
Scripts Globally Allowed, turn off notifications, remove it from obvious places like the addon bar, and she's protected from things like likejacking.
