Shrink options dialog?
Shrink options dialog?
I own a netbook with a small screen (can't go over resolution 800*600), which isn't quite tall enough for the NoScript options dialog; the buttons along the bottom get lost, so I can't change anything without trying to guess the right tab order.
From what I can see, the major obstacle to reducing the dialog height is the Embeddings tab. Can the ClearClick checkboxes perhaps be moved to Advanced-Untrusted and Advanced-Trusted (which both have some extra space)?

Re: Shrink options dialog?
This is the unfortunate side effect of a very complex software that people have constantly badgered to have more and more interface. Giorgio has been generally reluctant to add more to the interface but over time demand and necessity has forced his hand to do it. One of the many reasons was that it would complicate and make the interface busy. Another was that too many options would require too much room and ultimately make the window bigger or wider, whichever you decide to expand. Hence the dilemma as you see now.

Re: Shrink options dialog?
Well, I'm mostly OK with the interface (there are options I don't use, but perhaps other people do).
Any comments on my suggestion of moving the ClearClick checkboxes? I think that that would be enough to make the buttons appear on 800*600 resolution.

The interface can perhaps be made to tuck the items a little closer to each other without risking overlap. That should free up a bit of real-estate.

Dialog size issues aside, it's more logical anyway since ClearClick doesn't only apply to embeddings.Thrawn wrote:Any comments on my suggestion of moving the ClearClick checkboxes? I think that that would be enough to make the buttons appear on 800*600 resolution.
FWIW, on my 1120x756 Ubuntu, which is subject to similar problems, the current Options dialog is very comfortable vertically..
Thrawn, you must be using some alternative GUI that takes up more vertical space than Unity...
*Always* check the changelogs BEFORE updating that important software!

Re: Shrink options dialog?
No, it was Unity...maybe it was actually 640 * 480 or something. It's an early-model Eee PC.
EDIT: From this review, it appears that the screen is actually 800*480.

That's correct. I don't think Giorgio resized anything.

Re: Shrink options dialog?
Actually, by moving stuff around I managed to shave off the height of one row of buttons, at least on Windows, but that's almost correct: there's something in the Advanced tabs, really difficult to isolate, which keeps the whole window from shrinking further.Thrawn wrote:That's correct. @Thrawn: could you please pinpoint the exact maximum height required for the buttons to be usable within your desktop?

Re: Shrink options dialog?
Hmm...difficult to be sure, but the screen height is 480 pixels, and the Unity menu bar would take probably about 20 of that. Will try to look into it in more detail.Giorgio Maone wrote: @Thrawn: could you please pinpoint the exact maximum height required for the buttons to be usable within your desktop?
If you can fix it so the buttons appear on my laptop, I'll make use of the 'Donate' button
