NoScript + Notebookcheck.net = FF hang

Post by bemymonkey »

Hi there!

I've been using NoScript for a few years now (very statisfied, I might add), and today I've hit the first snag that actually presented a problem to me:

When I open the following page (http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Samsu ... 904.0.html) with NoScript on, Firefox freezes completely. 100% CPU usage, unresponsive to input, the whole shebang...

If I disable NoScript (the entire add-on), the page loads within less than half a second.

Is anyone else noticing issues like this with the latest version (IIRC there was an update a few days ago)?

Could you repost the URL (include it in [url] tags).
What domains do you have allowed?

Oh sorry, I didn't see the URL get mangled.

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q= ... 1OTXu6ZC1A

I have Noscript set to only block 3rd party domains. Not sure which other domains are blocked when on notebookcheck.com, as I can't load the site with NoScript enabled to check.

HANG WARNING.

The link does, eventually, oh perhaps 30 seconds later, actually roll over to the expected notebookcheck.com link, after which things do look to work properly.

The initial hang ... don't know offhand?

That's weird, it's not only the google redirect, it is also the page itself?

http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Samsu ... 904.0.html

Whether notebookcheck.com is allowed or not is immaterial.

Any number of messages in Error Console, but nothing to note.

Wouldn't know if there is "weird" stuff in the page source or not?

Jeeze, the spam here is really out of hand :S

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to tell me, btw. - do you need more info or are you just posting your findings as you get them? :)

Posting findings for the benefit of other support team members, I expect. And particularly for Giorgio.

Cannot reproduce on latest development build 2.6.8.7rc4 (likely fixed with the Google Maps hang).
Can you confirm?

Fantastic, thanks for the good work. Any idea when this build will hit the release channel?

I get the impression that the release channel is separate mainly to appease users who complain about updates being too frequent. So if you don't mind frequent updates, there really isn't much reason not to switch to the dev channel. You can get 2.6.8.7rc4 at the bottom of NoScript's AMO page (expand "Developent Channel").
*Always* check the changelogs BEFORE updating that important software!

Well, it does happen from time to time that changes hit the dev channel and then have to be revised/fixed based on user feedback. So it's occasionally less stable. But usually fine.
