Flashgot conflict with Downloadhelper 4.9.2.1

This applies to both Firefox 25.09.1 and Firefox Portable 26.0b8, Flashgot 1.5.9.5 and dev version, and several previous versions as well

I know this may not be a problem experienced by all, because my browsing sessions can commonly have over 200 tabs. They could have as many as 800.

When I have only a few tabs in a session, no problem, But lately with my bigger sessions, I was having a major delay in the complete launch of my browser, freezing it until it was totally loaded.

Before, even with 200+ tabs, it would only take about one minute to load. With 800 tabs, 3 1/2 minutes.

Then suddenly it was taking 5 minutes to load 200 tabs completely, and with 800 tab over 10 minutess, along with a flood of "Warning: Unresponsive Script" messages (which I finally disabled). In the process it was stressing out my 2g of ram, taking it right to the limit. I monitor these levels with Meminfo.

I finally narrowed down the problem to having both Flashgot & Downloadhelper 4.9.2.1. installed

They both work fine when used, but they collide to cause this delay when the browser is opened. A residual effect is that it also takes a long time for Firefox to release physical memory after closing.

Do you also have NoScript?

If so, try the latest (NoScript) #devel build & see if that helps.

No. My symptoms sound different.

While the browser is slowly loading, it is frozen, elevating cpu usage and gradually chewing up more and more ram memory until it gets to the max point (2g), and stays there until Firefox eventually starts to release memory back to its typical opening working level for so many tabs, around 1g more or less, at which time everything "loosens up" and works normally, or as normal as it can with so many tabs.

One other thing is that if I go to Windows task manager, end Firefox.exe, then re-launch Firefox, it loads up faster.

I spent quite some time isolating the problem to these extensions. As soon as I disable either one of them, Firefox behaves.

I dont know if this is related, but another kinda similar thing I noticed in the past is that when I switched from Firefox stable to beta, and vice versa, the browser would lock up while loading at around 700-800 mb, and would load no further. I had to stop it in task manager and relaunch and it was fine. I now use separate profiles for stable and beta.. They are identical except for the compatibility.ini file.

Regular Profile: 685 tabs, 48 windows, NoScript, FlashGot, AdblockPlus, Copy URL+, Fetch Text URL, Image Zoom, JSView, Named Anchors, Nuke Anything Enhanced, Tab Stats, ~800 MB RAM

Test Profile: 685 tabs, 48 windows, NoScript, FlashGot, Video DownloadHelper, ~800 MB RAM

Used the same prefs.js & sessionstore.json with each Profile & restarted from Session Restore.

Time to open:

Regular ~1:48
Test ~2:04

So it was a little bit slower but I'm not seeing anything like you're seeing.
In addition to NoScript/ABP, I also have SeaMonkey set to "Only restore tabs when I need them". (IOW only the focused tab in each window loads fully, initially.)

I didn't see that at all in my testing.

Suppose I could disable NoScript ...?

I found that Cookie Controller and Ghostery extensions also contribute to the problem if you use all 4 together.

I have the same problems as described above.

If I activate both Flashgot and DownloadHelper, Firefox creates a lot of CPU load and consumes more than 1.3 GB Memory for the first two minutes. The browser is totally unresponsible in this time.

I deactivated all other add ons and plugins (including Noscript) and this problem already exists. I also combined Flashgot with all other installed add ons one by one but the problem only exists in combination with DownloadHelper.

Would be nice if this will be fixed soon.
