Flashgot interferes with Flashblock.

Post by jacemace2002 »

Flashgot v1.5.5.95 interferes with Flashblock v1.5.17 on my Windows 8 x64 laptop. I have tried it in Firefox, Cyberfox, Waterfox, Palemoon, Seamonkey and Icedragon in all the latest versions.
All with the same result. Flashgot makes the Flashblock icon disappear after half a second.

Well, Giorgio may be able to sort it out, but on the whole, you're better off dropping FlashBlock and using NoScript to do the job. It's more reliable and can block other plugins like Java, plus it protects you from clickjacking, cross-site scripting, etc.

To use NoScript like FlashBlock:
  • Enable 'Scripts Globally Allowed' (optional)
  • In Options-Embeddings, select 'Apply these restrictions to whitelisted sites too'
More details are on Giorgio's blog.

Unless you're not. There is a reason why I uninstalled NoScript after giving it a try: It's annoying. Security is inverse to convenience, and I use Flashblock for convenience, not security.

For now I've reverted to FlashGot 1.5.5.5, but if it comes down to a choice, I'd rather abandon FlashGot in favor of some alternative than abandon FlashBlock in favor of NoScript.
