I have read the NS FAQ and several old posts where people had the problem that the NS icon disappeared, but nobody seems to have had exactly the same problem as me... so here it comes:
After I recently updated to Firefox 24.0, the yellow NS toolbar that used to appear at the bottom of the browser when I visited blocked sites is no longer there.
After reading a couple of other posts, I first made the new addon bar visible in order to drag the NS icon there. I right-clicked the addon bar and tried "Customize". However, the NS icon was not in the pop-up list of symbols (nor do I see any other add-on icons there, except Firebug)
Next I checked the navigation toolbar in order to see whether the NS icon had hidden there. But it hadn't. I kept trying to show and hide all possible bars including the bookmark toolbar and the sidebar and searched thoroughly, but I couldn't find the icon anywhere
Last I reinstalled NS, but the icon is still gone.
Do you have any idea how I can get the initial yellow toolbar back, or if that's not possible, how I can at least make the icon visible and drag it into the addon bar?

In Options-Notifications, is the 'Show message about blocked scripts' box checked? You should be able to reach the Options dialog using the context menu.

Yes, it's checked. The box below that is checked, too (I don't know the English text because my version is German, but it should be something like "show message at bottom of page"). I've also checked "information text in statusbar" and "information via page context menu" under Options > View, but the toolbar or icon still doesn't show up (nor can I access the NS options via the page context menu, which does work for other add-ons).

My theme is standard. But deactivating all add-ons finally did the job for me. I tried one after another and found out that the one that was responsible is Firedocs Workspace. I rarely used it before, and now I've removed it. Everything's working fine now.
Many thanks for your help. I'll remember the possibility of interferences between add-ons for next time.
