Problem opening multiple tabs

Post by Alan Baxter »

I've started having a sporadic problem when opening multiple bookmarks by middle-clicking a bookmark folder. All of the tabs are created, but sometimes the page for one or more of the tabs is blank, i.e. the content was never loaded. Refreshing with F5 loads the content. I don't recall ever seeing this happen before, and it didn't happen before I installed NoScript 1.9.4 a couple of hours ago. There are no messages in the Error Console. So far I've tested only in my default profile which has 59 extensions.

Just a heads-up for now since I haven't pinpointed the cause, yet. I've rolled back to NoScript 1.9.3.92 for now. If the problem recurs with this version of NoScript, then that will seem to remove any suspicion it was caused by NS 1.9.4. I'll let you know if it does.

Update: Testing in a profile with default theme and no other extensions:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060215 Firefox/3.0.11
NoScript 1.9.4
Home page http://noscript.net/ display is munged and dozens of error messages in the Error Console:
Security Error: Content at http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/ may not load data from http://noscript.net/.
Image

This one is similarly munged. Note repeat of "General" forum.

Update: Installed NoScript 1.9.3.92 in the test profile over NS 1.9.4
Startup homepage http://noscript.net still causes a few
Security Error: Content at http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/ may not load data from http://noscript.net/.
to appear in the Error Console.

Disable NoScript, Restart with noscript.net home page causes dozens of warnings similar to

Code: Select all

Security Error: Content at http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/ may not load data from http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-1563315177023518&dt=1244878416988&lmt=1244878415&format=120x600_as&output=html&correlator=1244878416988&dblk=1&channel=8180287387&url=http%3A%2F%2Fnoscript.net%2F&color_bg=FFFFFF&color_text=202020&color_link=E85A28&color_url=002080&color_border=FFFFFF&frm=0&ui=rc%3A10&ga_vid=1782026717.1244878417&ga_sid=1244878417&ga_hid=1936425258&flash=10.0.22&w=120&h=600&u_h=1024&u_w=1280&u_ah=996&u_aw=1280&u_cd=32&u_tz=-360&u_his=1&u_java=true&u_nplug=25&u_nmime=132&dtd=338&xpc=cGsyU21eC7&p=http%3A//noscript.net.
WTF!

Update:
Uninstalled NoScript, Restart with noscript.net home page causes this to appear six times in the Error Console:
Security Error: Content at http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/ may not load data from http://noscript.net/.
I get this Error Console message if I load noscript.net in a clean test profile too.

The "security error" issue is a bug in Google Adsense scripts, nothing to do about it.

The page mangling problem worries me much more. Could you check if it persist after setting noscript.asyncNetworking to false in about:config?

Confirmed and being worked on, thanks.
Notice also that changing the aforementioned pref has no effect yet because of a different bug.

Is the "http://noscript.net/ display is munged" repeatable?
I can't seem to force it? (SeaMonkey 2, all extensions disabled except for NoScript 1.9.4rc1.)

Not very repeatable. I've noticed the munged display only three times, on noscript.net, http://adblockplus.org/forum/, and http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=1.0. On the later two I was opening five bookmarks simultaneously, and noscript.net only once, when it was loaded at startup as my home page.

OK, I've now had it happen (randomly) once also.

(Hopefully) fixed in latest development build (RC2).
Confirmation is very appreciated.
The fix introduced a small "cosmetic" issue, which I hope to fix ASAP before releasing the final 1.9.4(.1): when you open a new document, a short lag may be noticed before the throbber starts spinnig, because DNS requests are anticipated before the start notification gets broadcast (the total load time is the same, though).
