Noscrpt Causing Firefox to crash on wake

Post by Murphy625 »

Hi all,
I' m using Firefox 21.0 and the latest version of Noscript.

My computer (PentiumD- WinXP Pro sp3) has been crashing upon waking for months. It doesn't always do this, but whenever I leave my browser open on some websites and walk away from the computer, the computer goes to sleep mode. When I return and wake it up, Firefox crashes within five or ten seconds. This happens about 50% of the time. The crash isn't what annoys me, what is worse is the fact that upon restarting firefox, it causes my hard drive to churn continuously for up to five or ten minutes.

As of late, I have been disabling one add-on at a time to see if I could isolate the cause. It is definitely Noscript causing this issue. I also have Ad Block Plus installed.

Help!

I cannot reproduce, and I suspend/wake a lot because my primary development workstation is a laptop.
Have you got other add-ons (beside ABP, which I've got also installed) which are enabled when this happens?
Also, could you please look into your about:crashes page and post here the most recent entries?

What other extensions?
What other plugins?

Churning sounds like it is clearing your /Cache/, which is quite slow (& inefficient IMO). And more so on an older, slower computer & in particular if your /Cache/ is particularly large.

Also depending on how much memory FF had accumulated, it could be purging that from memory.

How much memory?
How big HDD?
How much free disk space?

What version of Flash?
(FF) Hardware Acceleration enabled?

about:crashes
Do you sent the crash reports to Mozilla?

My other ad-ons are greasemonkey (Disabled), Ad block plus (disabled), Divx Plus web player (disabled) Saved Passwords Editor (enabled) and Do Not Track Me (enabled)...

Its been crashing for a long time before I installed most of those other ad-ons however.

Unfortunately, among the above crash reports there's no repeated instance. In other words, your Firefox installation (your system?) seems a lot crash happy, most crashes look memory-related (maybe faulty RAM) but all those crashes are different, so it's quite difficult for me to correlate them with NoScript :(

When I isolate NoScript, firefox doesn't crash ever. What particular part are you looking at that is giving you an indication that it is always something different??

Ram check says everything is fine.

The signature / stack, i.e. place of the Firefox code where the crash happens.
In the crash report you listed first, for instance, it is vp8_dequant_idct_add_uv_block_sse2, which apparently is a function of the VP8 video decoder optimized for SSE2 CPUs.

One other thing I have noticed, the crashing only happens when the computer wakes and the browser was on a page that automatically refreshes via java or something..

For instance, it will crash frequently if left on MSNBC.com, but never if its left on Craigslist.. (two sites I frequent)
