[UNRELATED] Options menu stalls firefox

Post by oscillator »

For I think a few months now I have been unable to open the options menu for NoScript without it becoming unresponsive, and the firefox window behind it darkening after ~10 seconds. The only way to regain firefox functionality is to kill the process in a terminal (OS is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Firefox 18.0.2).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, am running the latest version and as far as I am aware have not changed any settings which should really effect this (unless changing firefox plugins settings to 'click to play' would do anything..unlikely).

Other add-ons are Abines DoNotTrackMe & Turn Off The Lights which I've always had alongside.

No idea how to fix this :( any ideas?

(I can upload a screenshot of what happens if that would help anyone).

Sure post a shot.

And if you disable the extensions?
And what plugins do you have?

Otherwise, if you create a new, clean Profile, install only NoScript, does it happen there also?
And then if you add your extensions back in?
And then your plugins?

Tried disabling all plugins and extensions, still persists, doubt it's helpfull but once the menu does hang firefox takes up 100 of CPU.
Plugins are http://imagebin.org/246529
What I see when the menu crashes http://imagebin.org/246530

This is only when I hover over the NoScript icon and click 'options' to bring up the menu, I can still allow/block scripts via the smaller menu

I think this is a apport-gtk/unity issue with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, as similar screen darkening and overzealous CPU usage occurs when experimenting with certain things on other programs (this hadn't been an issue until very recently), so I'm not too bothered about receiving an answer here as it doesn't seem to be an issue with NoScript itself.

I would like to report the exact same problem on a fully updated Ubuntu 10.04 system. That's with all other extensions disabled, running Firefox 19.0.2 as supplied by Ubuntu. OTOH, when I tried it with a brand new firefox profile, it works fine. So it seems to be some interaction with something in my default profile rather then other extensions.
