Flashgot.log shows files I did not download

Post by KarenWoods »

My flashgot.log file shows files in Recent Post Info entries that I did not download. The URLs are from various fileshare sites like Oron, RapidShare etc. I don’t recall ever visiting these sites but if I had it was a long time ago. There is no Dispatch entries or download path entry so I am assuming that Flashgot was not used to save the files, instead the brower’s Save As option was selected or may be the default set up. Is it possible for such entries to be in the flashgot.log if the files were not viewed or downloaded?

It is theoretically possible for those entries to show up in the log as it may parse and detect for the purpose of offering you a choice, whether you use it or not. So yes, its conceivable that it would be in the log without it having been used for the download. Flashgot's detection and availability behavior is automatic, while its use to download something is optionally controlled by the user.

Thanks for your response. Would that mean that I did visit those sites recently and view the files or could this have been posted as a choice as a result of visiting those sites a long time ago?

To the best of my knowledge, the log is not "dumped" so it could very well have been recent or long ago. I would suggest looking inside the log file to see the date in which it was updated. Also the last modified date of the log file property itself might shed some light on that.

I will ask Giorgio to include a timestamp in the log if not already part of it, so that in the future this question is more easily answered.

I'm guessing that any file that automatically generates a download request, whether downloaded or not, whether downloaded through FlashGot or not, will get logged under "Recent post info found:".

This could be a link that you actually clicked, or something that the website popped up on its own.

If you FlashGot'd a link, that would not be listed.
But if you clicked a link or it popped up by itself (regardless of if you used FlashGot to download it or not) it would.

Suppose if you knew what a "post" action was ... ;-).

Forthcoming versions of FlashGot will have:

Code: Select all

v 1.5.4.4rc1
=====================================================
+ Added timestamp to log entries (thanks GµårÐïåñ for RFE)
+ Log buffers get automatically flushed whenever the log file is opened in the browser

As I had promised, I contacted Giorgio about the timestamp within the log and as therube has posted, it seems to now be included, so that should give you more assistance in the future in detecting, WHEN the item was seen or added to the log. Hope this helps.

Thank you Giorgio for adding the RFE and thank you therube for posting the changelog entry here.
