NoScript and Paypal via MacMall

Post by radunn »

I bought an item at macmall.com and chose paypal as the payment method. When I click the paypal link (box) Firefox freezes and I do not get to the option for entering paypal information. The only way I can get the Paypal link to work is to disable NoScript completely. I thought AdBlock Plus was causing it but indeed, it's NoScript. Is there a NoScript configuration needed? A few other sites have this issue as well. Perhaps we can kill two birds with one stone. In advance thanks!

Are paypal.com and paypalobjects.com allowed?
Does your Error Console (Ctrl+Shift+J) show any NoScript-related or Paypal-related message when this happens?

Paypal.com and paypalobjects.com are not on NS menu at macmall.com site; they're present only when I log on to paypal via my bookmarks.
I ran error console before clicking the paypal icon at macmall.com resulting with this:

Walmart.com is one to mention. It frequently freezes (shown at Firefox Status bar) at "rich....something".walmart.com. When these errors happen I resort to IE that is successful.

OK, I just tried to checkout to Paypal from MacMall and succeeded.
Notice that I do have both paypal.com and paypalobjects.com in my whitelist, and had whitelisted macmall.com to add a MacBook Pro deal to my shopping cart before checking out.
Please check whether your problem persist in a clean profile with NoScript installed and the whitelist entries mentioned above (one of the error messages you reported is from another extension).

Paypal.com & paypalobjects.com were both in NS whitelist; I added macmall.com, tried again and still a no-go. Did you click at the "Proceed to checkout, pay with Amazon and Paypal" section? This is where I do not get the Paypal login window (freezes here); not until I disable NS or select Allow Scripts Globally.

At that point in time, is there anything else able to be allowed, or anything relevant in Recently blocked sites?

Did you?
That might determine if you have something blocked - either through NoScript or some other extension, that is also wanted?

Yep, that's what I did with no freeze. Could you try on a clean profile?

I missed the important step; clean profile! Actually it wasn't a clean profile (I've a few created/saved from a while ago) that I tried and it worked at paypal (reloaded FF/site to be sure). Most (if not all) of my addons were installed in the additional profile; so apparently the profile used causing the paypal conflict was corrupt.?

Question; when you create a new profile do you have to reinstall addons or should you? I use Mozbackup to backup/restore but the "other files" section is confusing. As of late I uncheck everything there (other files - Mozbackup). I know this isn't a backup forum but perhaps you might be familiar. Again, thanks for your time and support. :?

It happens, which is why it's part of a standard diagnostic here. You can export your NoScript preferences and import them into the new one, so you shouldn't have too much difficulty migrating.

Yes, to both. A new profile is a clean slate. You can even run them in parallel if you want.

Never used it myself. But if you think that your old profile is corrupt, then I don't recommend migrating anything except NoScript settings using a backup tool. You might copy whatever is corrupted by accident. Manual reinstall is safer.
