Salon.com pages no longer loading

Post by blister »

As of today, salon.com pages linked to from the main page are not loading, the main page disappears when the link is clicked on, but the following page is blank - just white screen. I have not updated to today's NoScript update as I usually wait to do so (in the past I have lost all my open pages when updating NoScript and restarting), so maybe this update addresses this issue, or maybe it has nothing to do with NoScript at all. The pages load fine in other browsers without any extras (script disabling/ad blocking).

Could someone visit http://www.salon.com with NoScript 1.9.2 and see if clicking on a link there brings up a viewable page, then report back?

Thanks!

Cindy

It's apparently Adblock Plus.
As soon as I disabled it, the page worked fine.

Oh, I guess I shoulda checked that too! I thought it was more likely to be NoScript since there was coincidentally an update today which I thought maybe addressed this issue. Any idea why installing updates of NoScript sometimes causes my open FF pages (there are LOTS!) not to restore? I have learned to take the precaution of backing up my FF profile before installing these updates so I can get back my open pages if I lose them.

Thanks,

Cindy

The tab restore thing is very likely due to a Firefox's Session Restore + Extension Manager bug.
Have you got any tab-related extension?
If not, you should likely file a bug report at http://bugzilla.mozilla.org

I have tested it in a NS neutral profile and it works fine with it, so it HAS to be something else. Good luck.

Reason: NS Netural = Clean Profile with ONLY NoScript, if it works, not NS issue.

I have had Tab mix plus installed for a short while, but the problems I can remember were from before installing that (when I had no tab-related extension). So I guess that bug is just a "fact of life" -- I better keep on backing up my profile before updating NoScript.

And thanks GµårÐïåñ for your report!

Confirmed. It comes and goes with ABP. I guess it must be an Easylist issue. Maybe salon.com managed to circumvent ABP?

Maybe Alan Baxter could report it on the Easylist forum. He seems to be active there, too. Unless it is a third A.B. ;)

blister already reported it on the Adblock Plus forum. Wladimir says it is not an EasyList issue. (Any longer) http://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4002

Shush. I'm a triple agent.

Edit: Confirmed using EasyList version 25 May 2009 20:14 UTC
Problematic filter appears to be

Code: Select all

##*[class~="ads"]
And it appears to be fixed in the current version of EasyList, 26 May 2009 21:04 UTC

Thanks for the update, Alan. It takes some effort to stay up to date on all the good products and forums. What we need is a Mother of all (good) Forums.

Anyway, this gave me a chance to see a few ads. I hadn't seen any of those for years.
