[Enhancement] Merge the lines "Temporary Allow" & "Allow"

Post by rick »

I'd like to make this suggestion for the UI:
to merge the lines
"Temporary Allow x site" and
"Allow x site"
into one line, showing only the URL, with strikethrough text (meaning that it's blocked by Noscript), and the two relevant action icons next to the URL.
(the texts "Temporarily Allow" & "Allow" to appear as tooltip when you hover the mouse on each icon)

eg.
instead of
[Icon1] "Temporarily Allow site.com"
[Icon2] "Allow site.com"
into
[Icon1][Icon2] site.com

Also, the lines "forbid x site" for the URLs that you have allowed,
to appear in a different color, eg. light gray (maintaining the bold in main sites ) so that it distinguishes easier with the other lines.

I think that especially in sites with a lot of scripts,
it will make the list easier to use.

Thank you for your suggestions.

I personally prefer to have these spelled out. NoScript has many icons and icon variations already, which often confuses new users. The icon vs. words is non-intuitive, nor would one necessarily know to hover the mouse pointer at first. The hovering may also perhaps result in an unintended click, as a user with a "tap-to-click' laptop touchpad noted recently at this forum.

Some ways to shorten the menu are by marking as Untrusted every script source that you will not allow; then they no longer clutter the main menu. Some sites that might be in that class are suggested here. Also, one may choose in NS Appearance tab to have only one or two, instead of all three, levels of domain name appear in the menu. (noscript.net, www.noscript.net, http://www.noscript.net.)
Also, the lines "forbid x site" for the URLs that you have allowed,
to appear in a different color, eg. light gray (maintaining the bold in main sites ) so that it distinguishes easier with the other lines.
The choices to Forbid allowed sites have a very strong red NS icon, whereas the various Allow options have the blue-and-white icon. This seems to me to distinguish them markedly. My opinion only;' others' are welcome.

Thank you again for your interest in NoScript.

My opinion: I like things the way they are, but as Tom said, you can customise them to suit your preferences. NB If you want the menu as small as possible, then go for base second-level domains only, because if you choose full domains or full addresses, then you may get multiple entries, for scripts from different subdomains.

Similar ideas have come up occasionally. Personally, I am for anything that saves me vertical space.

Well, how about removing all of the 'Allow xxx' options, leaving only 'Temporarily Allow', and using 'Make page permissions permanent' instead? That should cut it down to one line per site.

And of course, you can dump 'Scripts Globally Allowed' and 'Allow All This Page' (and Temporarily Allow All This Page).

I've already tuned my settings in such ways, still I have to scroll on some sites and even if I don't have it often takes up too much space for my taste.

My tweaks are slightly different, but yes, some sites are so garbaged up with so many scripts that the menu sometimes does scroll off the end of the (laptop) display.

However, this doesn't affect my previous comment regarding the RFE.
