Referrer isn't working after last update

Post by elbarck »

Hello :)

After the last update, the referrer option isn't working anymore.... It catches the player instead of the real link in the address-bar (referrer)....

Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-xm3NB4zs8
Referrer: http://s.ytimg.com/yts/swfbin/watch_as3-vflwNccTn.swf

Download Manager: FlashGet 1.9.6.1073
OS: Windows XP SP3
Browser: Mozilla 16.0.2

Hum, it seems to work for me with Free Download Manager (same bridge model as FlashGet) with FlashGot 1.4.8.6.
Are you using FlashGot Media or some other mean to download the video?

Like elbarck, I also have problem after the last update - the referrer option isn't working anymore.

Example:
http://searchallmp3.org/info.php?name=M ... uqpcvGiHKw

Referrer:
http://ec-media.soundcloud.com/IwqJpXGD ... wR6jiBw%3D

FlashGot 1.4.8.6
Download Manager: FDM 3.8
OS: Windows 7
Browser: Mozilla Firefox 17 (beta)

Meanwhile, I've reverted to Flashgot 1.4.8.5

Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-xm3NB4zs8

I get URL: http://o-o---preferred---sn-ab5e6nlz--- ... zZHe7oM&...
Referrer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-xm3NB4zs8

Using Net Transport.

---

Example: searchallmp3 J Tull Dot Com Awol.mp3

I get URL: http://mp3.progarchives.com/Jethro%20Tu ... 20Awol.mp3
Referrer: http://www.4shared.com/flash/player/player.swf

Using Net Transport.

The player itself looks to be hosted on 4shared.com?
Actually it depends on which particular link, I get two, you select.
The other link gives a referrer of: http://searchallmp3.org/download-jethro-tull-mp3-1.html

No worries. I've removed it.

This is not a bug and won't be fixed.
FlashGot is extracting the correct referrer, i.e. the one sent by the browser when requesting the media file as the HTTP Referer header.
Only if that referer is not found/sent, it falls back to the document containing the player.
This way, if a web site uses a naive anti-leeching protection which checks the Referer, the download manager can successfully emulate it.

Okay, Is there anyway to downgrade to the version before the new one :)

Of course, but I doubt it will do what you want it to do.
I believe the change, if any, has been either in the Flash Player or in Firefox (how they choose the Referer header to send).
Previous versions here :)
