Switching online/offline
With version 2.5.8 every time I set firefox in offline-mode there is extra internet traffic and as i go into online-mode again there is even more traffic depending on the number of open tabs. I like to know what traffic this is and if there is any option to turn this off.

Current version is 2.6. Might as well get it.djaap wrote:With version 2.5.8
Also, are you really on Firefox 6, which is long unsupported, or is that an altered useragent? If the former, better to get a current release, unless some condition absolutely prevents this. In this case, it might be better to use Fx 3.6.28, which is actually more recent, having been released in March 2012, vs. Fx 6.0.2, which was released in September 2011. Of course, none of this alters the fact that there are extra risks in using any unsupported browser.
I'm assuming that you're watching your firewall's traffic indicator?every time I set firefox in offline-mode there is extra internet traffic and as i go into online-mode again there is even more traffic depending on the number of open tabs. When I just recently clicked File > Work Offline, my firewall showed no traffic. When I unchecked "Work offline", of course there was traffic, because Firefox re-establishes connections to each site you have open in your tabs. This is perfectly normal.
If you would like to see this in action, click Start. Click Run. In the Run box, type
Code: Select all
ping www.example.comI don't know why you have traffic when starting the offline session, but it may depend on which firewall you have, or perhaps be a relic of F6.

It seems Firefox don't re-establishes connections on it's own because if I deactivate Noscripts there is no traffic at on and off. I double checked it today.

The IP is checked every time you switch because it may have been changed by your ISP (the browser has no way to tell).
