Google shortcuts extension doesn't work on blocked page

Post by srothkin »

I use the Google Shortcuts extension. Sometimes I use it to gmail a page. Normally it pops open a new gmail window with the URL of the page along with any selected text in the new message body.

However, it doesn't work (won't pop open gmail window) on pages/domains for which I haven't allowed scripting.

file:// is already in my whitelist.

Would like to see change in NoScript that allows toolbar extensions like Google Shortcuts to work even when the page I'm viewing has scripts blocked.

Actually, there's already a suitable way for extensions to do that: if they run scripts in the browser's chrome context (because they are browser components), then they will bypass NoScript, by design. That's something for the Google Shortcuts developer(s) to fix, though. If they run their scripts in the page context, instead of chrome, then they will be treated exactly the same way as any other script on the page.

I don't know a lot about the details of developing firefox extensions, but I'm wondering if it has to run in the page context in order to have information from the page (like the URL and any text I've selected on the page).
