lost settings after reset

Post by noscript_idea »

Logmein recently stopped allowing me to login, taking me back to the login page each time. I finally narrowed it down to a NoScript issue by disabling most of my extensions and enabling them one by one. However, I couldn't recall or figure out what NS setting I might have changed recently, so I performed a Reset from the Options dialog, remembering that I had previously saved my settings long ago in a bookmark. I wasn't worried about settings more recent than the bookmark.

Now I find that the bookmark method of restoring settings has been deprecated and I'm at a loss as to how I can recover hundreds of blocked and whitelisted domains.

Is there any way to convert the bookmark to a format for importing?

Just a shot in the dark here, since I haven't tried it: maybe make a new profile, copy the bookmark to it, install an old version of NoScript on it, import the settings, and then export them the modern way?

As an aside, making a new profile is almost always a better idea than using 'Reset'.

Your new profile is cleaned, reset will make it all go. The old settings can be manually restored, or the method thrawn suggested but I wouldn't hold my breath that it will actually work. You should ALWAYS backup your settings by using export BEFORE you reset, period. No matter what you got already. Unless Giorgio can provide a magic solution, you are pretty much back to square one, unless thrawns method somehow manages to work.

  • Make a new profile by editing your profiles.ini file and setting StartWithLastProfile=0, then restarting Firefox. You should get the Profile Manager.
  • Bookmark backups are in your profile directory under 'bookmarkbackups' subdirectory.
  • Old NoScript versions are at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/versions/
Good luck!

@Thrawn, solid suggestion, awesome.
@OP, please give us feedback on how it goes and if it works.
