[UNRELATED] "Typewriter" notification audio

Post by trs »

I prefer notifications to be visual only, but unchecking the [Options>Notifications>Audio feedback when scripts are blocked] setting, changes nothing. I even changed the source in the listing to a .wav file I created which contains only .5 seconds of pure silence. That's what I hear (silence) when the play button is pressed. But the annoying "typewriter" noise is still present in normal operation. How in the world can I rid the system of this annoying audio "feature", please.?

Are you sure you don't have some sort of (Windows) accessibility feature turn on?

If you make some other NoScript setting change, is it retained after a restart?

As a test, if you create a new, clean Profile, then install NoScript, even enable then audio feedback, do you still get sounds.

Thanks for the quick response. The problem has been solved through the following actions (I was a software test engineer for an aerospace company a couple of decades ago - old habits die hard):

1. The XP installation is fairly fresh (and clean) but I checked the Accessibility Options' settings per your suggestion anyway. The two "Sound" options were set, apparently by default. Unchecking both did not help; the undesired audio continued as before.

2. Moving the NoScripts notification bar from bottom to top (per Options settings) and changing the time interval both functioned correctly.

3. In the Profile, five Add-on's were listed: Collusion 0.16.3, FlashBlock 1.5.1.5.1, MS .NET Framework Assistant 0.0.0, PrivacyChoice Trackblocker 2.2, and XFINITY Constant Guard Protection Suite 1.1.730.1. All were turned off in the first step, then each were tried in turn. The Collusion Add-on was the culprit.

While the Collusion Add-on was (re)Enabled, I reset the .wav file to the default file to ensure it was working properly. It was, so I then changed the file back to my desired .5 second silence file, which functioned correctly.

I now have the notification function working as I want - visual with my kind of audible notice (i.e., NONE.)

Many thanks for your help.

Sorry, I forgot to note that I disabled the Collusion Add-on after the (re)Enabled test. Otherwise the conclusion reads correctly.
