Suddenly not saving new sites.

Post by Rachel R. »

My NoScript is suddenly not treating permanent permissions for new sites as permanent. It'll save them during my session, but when I close Firefox and restart it, the permissions have been removed. I'm *definitely* not giving the sites temporary permissions, so I'm not sure what's up.

I had this problem before, along with FF not saving new passwords. It turned out that unclicking hardware acceleration in the Advanced options on FF fixed the problem. (I have no clue how that was the problem, but hey, if it works... -shrugs-) I double checked to see if somehow the hardware acceleration option had gotten turned on again, but it hasn't.

I'm using Firefox 13.0.1 and NoScript 2.4.7. I also have AdBlock Plus, avast! WebRep, Ghostery, Greasemonkey, NoSquint, Personas, RemoveTabs, Snap Links Plus, and Speed Dial. All the addons are up-to-date and the only one that's updated recently is Ghostery. That maaay be the problem, but I can't figure out how.

If y'all have any idea what's up, I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks!

Also, adding the sites directly to the whitelist via the options menu doesn't work either.

Maybe a profile corruption? Or are you using Firefox Sync?

I'm not using FF sync.

Wouldn't a corrupt profile effect more than just NoScript? How do I check to see if the profile is corrupted?

NoScript stores its settings in prefs.js, so make some general change to FF, quit, restart & see if that change persists.

Perhaps ... Tools | Options | Advanced -> Encryption (tab), uncheck both Use SSL & TLS, OK.

See if that is retained on restart.
(And be sure to re-enable both of them ;-).)

If the change is not retained, then something is blocking writes to your prefs.js.
If the change is retained, then maybe some corruption on the NoScript end. Backup your existing NoScript settings, then try a Reset.

Okay.
Perhaps ... Tools | Options | Advanced -> Encryption (tab), uncheck both Use SSL & TLS, OK.
I did that, and it was retained when I restarted.

I reset NoScript, which worked.. until I rebooted FF. Then everything was back to where it was before, including not saving new sites. o.O

I took NS off and reinstalled it and had the same thing happen -- Fine, until I rebooted FF and, then, everything was back to where it is was before the reinstall.

That's really weird.
Have you got any sandbox software?
Also, some extensions can interfere with NoScript. Could you please try Standard Diagnostic?

I don't have any sandbox software, alas. But I ran through some of the diagnostics. The Safe Mode stuff wasn't all that helpful because I'm being attacked by pollen and my brain is barely above "stare at the computer drooling" level.

Anyways, hardware acceleration was disabled already, changed the theme back to default. Removed all the addons except the ones I will not do without -- NS, avast!, AdBlock Plus, and Speed Dial. No changes in how NS is functioning.

I made a new profile, installed the bare basics of addons... And now No Script works like normal. -facepalms-

When this was happening before, I was also unable to save new passwords in FF. That was the first install on this computer (brand new computer), and everything was transferred over via FF Sync. I ended up doing a clean install (making sure to delete all the files left over) and that fixed the problem for a little bit. And then I ended up here because NS suddenly decided to act up. So maybe there's some weird repeating profile corruption going on?
