Suggested Feature: Granting Trust while in Global Mode

Post by ShankedS »

Earlier today I suggested NoScript to a friend of mine. I informed her that it would probably be annoying for the first little bit or so as she browsed through her favorite sites. Even still, she was particularly bugged with going through all of her usual facebook games and allowing them, due to how that system works. It wasn't a problem I'd run into as I don't play facebook games and only generally have to allow a couple sites at a time at most.

It occurred to me that, in such situations, where you knew you trusted all of those sites, it might be advantageous to turn on scripts globally and then start allowing the sites. You still have to go through the process of clicking, but, at the very least, you won't have to worry about reloading pages as you allow them. And, in such situations, you might not know all the urls to simply add them to the whitelist directly. However, that option was not available in global mode, you can only blacklist a site.

It's not a huge feature by any means, and it might be difficult to work into the present UI, but, being allowed to whitelist a site while in Global scripts mode would certainly have its uses.

You can do that. While in Globally Allow mode, open the NS menu where you saw the option to blacklist the site. Type the name of the site into NoScript Options > Whitelist, click Allow, then click OK. (You can add as many as you like before clicking OK, which closes the GUI. Just be sure to click Allow after each entry.)

No clicking required. A bit more time-consuming, but we don't want to encourage users to Allow Globally.
I'm assuming that at some point, when your friend has enough of her favorite sites whitelisted, she will turn off Allow Globally?

Also, NoScript Quick Start Guide may be helpful.
