Re: No script is gone

Post by Aquifer »

I guess it seems that i have to find something to click on first - the Firefox bar at the top of the screen has blank space to the right of Help, but clicking anywhere on it does nothing. On each page/window, at the top there is an address bar showing the url of the site, but again, no blank spaces that respond to clicks - there is a little icon (looks like a gear) at the extreme right that identifies itself as "toolbar settings", but it doesn't do anything when i click on it ("broken button"?)

I happen to notice that the whole bar at the bottom of the screen, the one that shows the progress of loading a page, has also disappeared - think that was where the NoScript icon was - so maybe my problem is how to get THAT back, but i haven't had any luck with that either .... don't know if it is a Firefox issue, an OS issue, or what. Shucks, I'm lucky if I can figure out where to go to get help, let alone how to find it when I get there. Sort of like figuring out how to know which doc to go to when you don't know which of your "systems" is making you sick - guess I have to figure that out before I can then figure out (with help) how to "fix" the system ...

I do appreciate your patience and persistence - this is rather like a medical "history" and "review of systems", with which i am quite familiar ....

Computers have always frustrated the hell out of me ....

You are right - all this doesn't really matter - maybe i should just read a good book on philosophy instead :)

How about selecting "Toolbars" from the "View" menu up there in the same row as "Help"?
There should be a "customise" option there.

You have to do the equivalent of a *right*-click, which according to my good friend GµårÐïåñ, is accomplished on a Mac with option+click. Try that.

Screenshots would be helpful here, but we have a better work-around, courtesy of SeeView (thanks): Click (ordinary click) Firefox View menu, then point to Toolbars. On the right should be all those things we've been trying to get to: check all other toolbars so that they're visisble, and check Customize. You may have to re-open the menu each time.

Also, on the View menu, right under Toolbars (I hope), ensure that Status Bar is checked. If it isn't, that's how a lot of your stuff disappeared.
Computers have always frustrated the hell out of me ....
They do that to everyone, even the ultra-geeks. :D

Who said that? I think we have the solution now, using the View menu.

@ SeeView: Perfect example of Human Factors studies -- got so involved trying to figure out how to do a r-click on this device, that it distracted from the Big Picture. Thanks. [facepalm]

Holy cow! Eureka! By George, you've done it! It was the status bar - I clicked it and presto the stuff reappeared! I didn't even know what a "status bar' was. I feel like such an idiot - I must have "unclicked it" when i was scrolling down to zoom, which is about the only thing I use in that menu (my clicker has a mind of its own and sometimes does its own thing - seriously ...)

Thank you very much! You folks are awesome! i will try not to trouble you again ...

Am I Henry Higgins, or Eliza Dolittle? (sounded like a quote from "My Fair Lady", "The Rain In Spain")

They all do that. It happens to the best. And it happens to me sometimes, too. :D

"Oh, it was nothing. Really, nothing." (another quote from Prof. Higgins, in "You Did It")

Seriously: don't be silly. ;) That's what we're here for.
We do like those who search the FAQ etc. first, but don't ever be bashful if you have another problem. We like having happy users. :)

Edited To Add: Now for the bad news. In Firefox 4+, they took away the status bar, leaving a not-enabled-by-default "add-on bar", which caused that thread with 16,000+ views  -- in which you first posted.

So, if you do update to Firefox 11 (12, whatever) when support for F3 ends on April 24th, don't panic. Just enable the Add-on bar in the same way, and if NoScript icon isn't in it (it should be), open View Menu > Toolbars and check Customize. If the icon is in Customize box, drag it to wherever you like it - top or bottom.

An ounce of prevention... ;)

(At this point, the discussion went off-topic, and was split to Forum Extras > Web Tech, "Is newer always better? + Modularity-Compatibility issues").

Frankly, that is a PIA and if so I will probably disable the whole thing or uninstall it .... Too bad, I liked it ... It used to work fine, until it suddenly disappeared ....
I had this same problem & couldn't find it anywhere, until I went to ; view / toolbars / custom / reset, an there it was !
