[FIXED] Google Music site no longer plays music
[FIXED] Google Music site no longer plays music
Firefox 10.0.2 (on two different computers running Windows 7, both 32-bit and 64-bit).
Flash plugin 11.1.102.62
NoScript 2.3.2
I can no longer get Google Music (https://music.google.com/) to play music in Firefox unless I completely disable the NoScript plugin.
Even if I say "Allow Scripts Globally" or "Temporarily allow all this page," when I try to play a song I get a popup that says:
"OOPS, WE HAVE A TECHNICAL ISSUE
Please refresh this page in your browser to get back to listening to your music. If issues persist, make sure you have Flash enabled and working."
But if I go to Tools / Add-ons and disable NoScript, Google Music works fine. Please tell me what setting to change or exception to add!
TIA

I was going to try to reproduce this, but it looks like you have to have a Google account, which I don't have and don't want.
Most likely is to open NS menu, point to Blocked Objects, and look for something like "Temp-allow shockwave-flash" (or *) @ https // whatever.google.com?"
Temp-allowing that may work, and you can use Creating Site-Specific Permissions via ABE to do that automatically every time.
If not:
Could you please open Firefox Tools > Error Console, click "Errors", and copy any red Error messages and paste them here? Also please click "Messages", and post here any messages relating to NoScript.
Also, when this happens, please open NoScript menu, right-click an empty area to copy the list of allowed and disallowed scripts, and paste here.
Then open the menu, point to Recently Blocked Sites, and post that list here.
It's a little hard working in the blind, so if another Mod or power-user has a Google account, I'd welcome the help.

Re: Google Music site no longer plays music
I usually don't allow the ad domains, but in trying to get it the music to play, I set it to "Temporarily allow all this page."
There are no blocked objects.
There are no blocked domains.
There are no recently blocked sites.
In the error console, there are no errors or messages.
These are the allowed domains that appear on the NoScript menu:
googleadservices.com
gstatic.com
google-analytics.com
doubleclick.net
google.com
But when the error message (described in the first post) pops up when I'm trying to play a song, the only button is marked "Refresh," and when I press it and see the URLs flashing by at the bottom of the Firefox window, I also see googleusercontent.com (which is also on the whitelist), even though it doesn't appear on the NoScript menu.
That's about all the info I have. I hope someone else has a Google Music account and can test this.

I hope so, too. But before I log off for this session, just a couple of thoughts:DG42 wrote:That's about all the info I have. I hope someone else has a Google Music account and can test this.
Does Flash work fine elsewhere, such as at YouTube (which is also owned by Google)?
If you uncheck NoScript Options > Embeddings > Apply these restrictions to whitelisted sites, does it work?
AND/OR
uncheck Forbid Adobe Flash?
Not recommending either setting permanently, just trying to get some diagnostic info.
Did this work with previous versions of NS? If so, do you know which version correlates to the change (failure?)
Have you added any new extensions recently, especially Adblock Plus or Ghostery? Does disabling either/both change things?
Ultimate: Create a clean profile from scratch. Install only NoScript. Leave all the defaults. Install nothing else.
Does it work now? If so, there is probably an extension conflict or a profile corruption. Keep the new profile and gradually add back stuff until it breaks again.
This would be a lot easier with an account, but I don't know when or if someone else will pop in to help, so I leave you with that. I'll be back a good bit later. GL.

Re: Google Music site no longer plays music
Yes, YouTube works fine and Flash seems to be fine everywhere else.
"Apply these restrictions to whitelisted sites" was already unchecked.
I unchecked "Forbid Adboe Flash" and it still does not work.
Yes, Google Music worked fine previously, but unfortunately I had not used Google Music in a few weeks. Probably both NoScript and Firefox have been updated at least once since I last tried it.
I don't have any other ad-blocking type of extensions, and I have not installed any new extensions in a long time.
I created a clean profile and installed only the NoScript extension. I whitelisted all the domains that the Google Music site needs. The problem still remains.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a working copy of Fx 3.6.27, which is still supported? If not, you can put one on a flash drive (or on your hard drive, ensuring to put it in a separate directory from 10.02, but the flash drive makes the segregation automatic), from http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/f ... n#legacy36. Free download. Install NoScript as usual, and you are ready to give it a try.DG42 wrote: Probably both NoScript and Firefox have been updated at least once since I last tried it.
The only other thing that I was able to discover without an account is that the RequestPolicy add-on shows a request from google to googlevendorcontent.com, a name that hasn't come up in this discussion. If you have RequestPolicy, that might be necessary to allow. I don't see it in the NoScript menu, but again, I'm not logged in.
Since no one with a GMusic account has shown up here, the only other thing I can offer is if you PM me your login creds. I won't buy anything, of course, but if this somehow gives access to your actual credit card numbers, PayPal accounts, etc., I'd rather not, unless you can block those out or temporarily change them to fake ones. And then you can/should change your login creds afterwards.
One other try: I'll post separately, asking if anyone who has a GMusic account can reproduce this, although you'd think that if they could, they'd either have complained before, or joined in this thread.

Re: Google Music site no longer plays music
So on my current setup I am now running NoScript 2.3.3 rc2, and I added googlevendorcontent.com to the whitelist, and it's still the same problem.
I installed Firefox Portable 3.6.27 and NoScript 2.3.2 on a flash drive, and I have the same problem! I set it to Allow Scripts Globally and it's still the same. So it doesn't appear to be related to the Firefox version.
Sorry I can't give you the login creds for this account. But yeah I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this problem. The problem exists on two different computers. I did read recently that Google Music is losing users rapidly, so maybe there's no one left.

No offense taken. I'd really rather not -- you can imagine why -- but as a last-ditch effort, the offer was there. Just as glad not to.DG42 wrote:Sorry I can't give you the login creds for this account.

Gee, I wonder why?I did read recently that Google Music is losing users rapidly, so maybe there's no one left.

The Wikipedia article indicates a substantial change on 16 Nov 2011. You said you hadn't used it in a while. By any chance, does the change from success to failure correspond to that date?
It also sort of hints that it's primarily part of the Android space. I didn't read the source citations, and we know that WP articles may or may not be accurate, but you may wish to check out some of the cited sources. One quick glance kind of hinted that that may be the case.
One last try, depending on how badly you want to explore this (Glad I don't have an account there; if I did, I think I'd close it):
I know that you've not checked "Apply to whitelisted sites" on Embeddings tab. But if for some reason it's not being read as completely whitelisted (like that source that showed up in RequestPolicy, just as an example), maybe uncheck the forbidding of <audio><video>, WebGL -- heck, if you have a "safe" environment, like a sandbox or virtual machine, uncheck them all. Which is close to disabling NoScript, but you've already done that anyway. (Cllckjack and XSS protections will still apply, but you're not getting warnings, messages, or errors of that nature, so they're not the issue.) But who knows, we could get lucky.
Else, check Google's Help pages or complain. They'll probably tell you to disable NS. They don't like us, because we block their junk.

Maybe they want it to work only on Chrome, where they control the environment?
Hope you didn't pay an upfront fee or monthly fee. Can you get a refund?
Unless someone with an account can reproduce this and give more info, I'm very sorry, I don't know what else could be done here.

Re: Google Music site no longer plays music
I have been watching the back and forth and Tom's attempts to help resolve this but frankly I am confused because I try it and it works just fine, although personally I wouldn't get caught dead using it and made the exception to help this matter at hand. Are you sure you don't have something else mucking things up and have done a clean profile with just NoScript to see if the problem is ACTUALLY NoScript or not, because I am not seeing it. And, IF it's a NoScript issue, I can ALWAYS reproduce within 99% accuracy. On that note, 99% of the time, NOT an NS issue.

As I said in my previous post, I created a new profile and added NoScript and got the same result. But even better, just this evening I installed Firefox Portable, both versions 10.0.2 and 3.6.27 on a flash drive, and installed NoScript 2.3.2 on both. Don't know if I can get any cleaner than that. I took the flash drive to three different computers (all running Windows 7, 32-bit and 64-bit), and on each computer, both versions of Firefox give the same error message.GµårÐïåñ wrote:I have been watching the back and forth and Tom's attempts to help resolve this but frankly I am confused because I try it and it works just fine, although personally I wouldn't get caught dead using it and made the exception to help this matter at hand. Re: Google Music site no longer plays music
I've also been having issues with google music - one day it just stopped working. I had my company's IT guy check it out and he said noscript was the problem. When I disabled noscript, GM worked just fine. Is there a fix in the works for this? I reinstalled flash to no avail.
I'm getting the same error message detailed on this post. This is really annoying, I don't want to stop using NS as I feel it's a great tool, but am tired of listing to the coworkers!

Well I understand what you are saying but the fact is that if we can't reproduce it and you are posting to this forum using Chrome, it begs the question if you have actually done your due diligence. I will ask Giorgio to take a look and see if HE feels there is something to it or not.DG42 wrote:As I said in my previous post, I created a new profile and added NoScript and got the same result. Re: Google Music site no longer plays music
Could you have your "IT guy" provide us the reason for this deduction so we can check it out as well? Someone just placing blame on something is NOT a proper support or debugging technique, unless there is reasonable and reproducible methods to support the claim.xtina123 wrote:I've also been having issues with google music - one day it just stopped working. Re: Google Music site no longer plays music
It may not be significant but given that both of you are using Comcast service on opposite coasts, one of you a business line, have you considered this might be a service level filter placed by the business or possibly the ISP itself? It may not necessarily be a client side issue, hence why its not showing up for me or others trying to debug this? Just saying something else to consider. You may want to ask your "IT guy" to see if its a traffic filter placed in there by your work and if its a small shop, not corporate, then it would lend more support to possible ISP level issues.

Re: Google Music site no longer plays music
I have comcast at home - works no problem on my macbook pro and my xp machine.
At work I've got a w7 machine, I use firefox 10.0.2 on all the machines.
I know this is not an internet/service blockage issue because Google Music will play here at work using internet explorer (ew). We have a firewall installed that allows certain users to see blocked content if they log in, so anything that is blocked would just reroute you to a screen prompting you to log in. He has assured me that Google Music isn't one of those blocked services. Pandora, facebook, hulu, netflix streaming, etc - those are blocked. I contacted IT and he said that he checked to make sure I had the latest version of flash installed. When he disabled no script, GM worked on Firefox. When he enabled NS, even "allowing all" on the GM page, it kept giving the the error and GM didn't work. That seems like a pretty clear cut basis for diagnosis.
