[UNRELATED] "connecting"-icon in tabs doesn't disappear
Hello,
I've been having some trouble with the new Firefox versions (9.x and 10.x) and Noscript. A few weeks ago I updated my old Firefox 3.6.x to the new 9.x version and of course installed Noscript, of which I've grown very fond. In the meantime I did another upgrade to Firefox 10.0.2. which didn't resolve the problem.
The problem is, that every time I open a new webpage (including internal pages like the addon-page) this small animated "connecting"-icon in the corresponding tab doesn't go away, even after the page is fully loaded. Whenever I disable Noscript, this problem disappears, and it also stays that way after re-enabling the addon for about 4-5 launches of Firefox. Then it starts all over again. Now I know this is more of a nuisance than a real problem, but it's still somewhat confusing, because you never really know if a website has actually been fully loaded or is still loading or whatever. I've already tried to find something on this issue on the web and especially on this support page but didn't come up with any results. So if anyone has an idea what this is or how it can be fixed or if there already is a post about this, I'd be really happy to hear about it.

Any other add-ons installed?

other installed addons are: speed-dial 0.9.6.4, adblock plus 2.0.3, download statusbar 0.9.10, fire gestures 1.6.10, reload every 10.0.0, tab renamizer 0.9.7 and url-alias 2.3.1
Some of these are more or less expendable, but some of them, like url-alias and reload every are very important to me. Thanks for your quick answer. I appreciate any help you may offer

Re: "connecting"-icon in tabs doesn't disappear
The idea is to disable all others except NoScript & see if the problem persists.
If it does not then there could be an incompatibility between one of the others & NoScript.
And then you'd want to see if you could figure which ones cause the problem to develop.

Re: "connecting"-icon in tabs doesn't disappear
Ok, should have thought of that myself. The problem disappears when adblock plus is disabled. If I reenable it, its it's the same as with noscript. Works fine for a few launches of Firefox, than the problem is back. So it seems there is some incompatibility between these two addons. So maybe the folks who developed adblock have some idea what's going on there. I'd really like to go on using both addons together. Thanks four your help and the quick answers so far

Create a clean profile from scratch. Install only Noscript. Does the problem still exist? If not, then NoScript is not the culprit.
Now disable NoScript, and add ABP. If the problem starts, then ABP is guilty.
Do the same with the other add-ons, one at a time. Most likely, it is an ABP problem, but this way, you will know for sure before you go there for help.
And they will probably ask you to go through the same procedure anyway.
This is so standard that it's called Standard Diagnostic, and in the Forum Rules that we ask people to read, it recommends reading the General Troubleshooting Instructions before posting. Which would have led you to Standard Diagnostic.
But actually, the clean profile method is even better than their Safe Mode method, because sometimes, the profile itself gets corrupted. Which means that simply creating a clean profile and reinstalling all of your desired add-ons may solve the problem right there.

Hi,
Sorry I didn't follow standard procedure from the beginning. Anyway I did as you recommended. As long as only Noscript is installed, there is no problem. The same goes for Adblock. Only when both of them are installed together (regardless of installation order) the problem reappears.

@utzenreuter:
Just to give you another data point from my experience, I've been using Adblock Plus and NoScript at the same time for many years. I've never had a problem with them conflicting with each other. Sorry that this observation doesn't solve your problem, but I think it may be something more complicated than a simple conflict. Go the clean test profile route. Disable all of your Adblock Plus filters and subscriptions by middle-clicking the Adblock Plus icon. What are your results? Do you have the problem even when NoScript is using its default settings?

Re: "connecting"-icon in tabs doesn't disappear
Hi there,
I finally found out what seems to be the problem: a combination of adblock plus, noscript and tab renamizer. Regardless of their order of installation they cause the problem when running at the same time. Disabling any one of them solves the problem. I think I'll just go without tab renamizer, as it's more of a toy than a really usefull addon for me. Thanks for your suggestions and quick help

You're welcome. Thank you for identifying the conflicting extension.

In my case, another one of your add-ons seems to have been the problem: TabRenamizer. When I disabled that one and restarted Firefox, the "Connecting..." problem went away.

Re: [UNRELATED] "connecting"-icon in tabs doesn't disappear
Thank you for that feedback. Many users, including fellow Mod Alan Baxter, use both NoScipt and ABP without problems. It appears from your diagnosis that TabRenamizer has a conflict with one or both of those, or perhaps with the combination.Machank wrote:In my case, another one of your add-ons seems to have been the problem: TabRenamizer. This is very helpful to anyone else with the same problem. Thanks for posting it. And you may wish to let the developer of TabRenamizer know about it.
Cheers.

I had the same instinctive reaction, then realized that Machank was addressing OP, not us.GµårÐïåñ wrote:TabRenamizer is NOT our addon. By "your" add-on, he meant, "one of utzenreuter's add-ons".
Relax, my friend, it's all good.

Right. I had no idea what website I was posting to. I was just searching for ideas about the "Continuing..." problem, and since it led to a fix for me (and yes, I also have Ad Block Pro installed), I thought I'd share my results.Tom T. wrote:I had the same instinctive reaction, then realized that Machank was addressing OP, not us.GµårÐïåñ wrote:TabRenamizer is NOT our addon. No problem, and thanks for clarifying and confirming.machank wrote:Right. I had no idea what website I was posting to. I was just searching for ideas about the "Continuing..." problem, and since it led to a fix for me (and yes, I also have Ad Block Pro installed), I thought I'd share my results.
I think that "somewhere" on this page are the headings "NoScript" and "NoScript Support"

As said to GµårÐïåñ, it's all good.
