Hotspot shield, Noscript, Google Images

Post by scriptoz »

Hi all

I use Win XP, Firefox 10.0.2, Hotspot shield 2.24 , and I use Noscript 2.3.1 to block hotspot shield ads script and it works for most things.

My problem is that I can't use Google Images, I search for images, I see results, I click on any image and I see the picture for 1 second and then I get redirected or page reloads to a white page, I think I am still on the same page but with empty screen.

The only fix was disabling Noscipt, allowing all scripts on the page and reloading it didn't fix it.

Any fix for this ???

Is this Hotspot Shield?
And do you use Free or Paid?
And what is a "hotspot shield ads script"?

Sample Google Image search URL?

Yes this is the site of the service http://hotspotshield.com

I use the Free account

"hotspot shield ads script" : in noscript menu if you disable a script called anchorfree.net (ISP name for hotspot shield) you will no longer see hotspot shield ads bar in every page you open and won't get other events related to hotspot shield taking over your browser.

This is the address I had while seeing the blank page where I should see the image I had clicked on in Google images search results:

Code: Select all

Since they offer both a free version and a paid version, and say explicitly that the free version is ad-supported, it's hardly surprising that blocking the ads breaks HotspotShield.

You can check Error Console (Ctrl+Shift+J, or Firefox Tools > Web Developer > Error Console) for Messages related to NoScript, to see if something there may provide a workaround.
The JSView add-on gives more details on exactly which scripts are running, by full name/URL, versus just "adcompany.com".

if able, write your own Surrogate Script for the ones they run.
