Not grabbing from cache?

Post by notanewb »

Hello. First of all, FlashGot is a wonderful free extension for Firefox and mine actually works just fine.

However, I have a problem with the way it's currently working.

In a previous version, FlashGot could almost instantly download an entire flash movie from a streaming site
that had said movie embeded and playing on the page, provided that it had finished loading completely.
This worked nearly 100% of the time.

Now FlashGot always starts at the beginning, even if I have completely downloaded the said object through it's stream.
I figure FlashGot must have been taking the file right out of Firefox's cache previously, and I'm wondering why it doesn't seem to do that anymore.

Hopefully this is just a newbie oversight on my part, and FlashGot is supposed to still function this way.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

(I'm using Firefox 9.0.1, FlashGot 1.3.7 now, but I'm not sure what the previous version was. I'm in windows 7 64bit.)

1.3.7 brought a change, & works far better then (some) earlier versions.

Code: Select all

v 1.3.7rc1
=====================================================
+ [Media] FlashGot Media now reuses the streaming
cache directly, rather than forcing the file cache
(this also fixes an issue with some videos being
  playable just once)
Suppose this is what you are noticing.
Don't know if there is a way around, though you could use an earlier version, http://flashgot.net/feed?

Yeah I saw this in the changelog and figured it might be what's doing it, wasn't sure though. Obviously it's supposed to be an improvement but... meh.

I guess I'll look at using an older version until (if) they decide to make the source of the download to be the direct streming cache or the file cache.

There are upsides and downsides to both.

Thanks for the reply.

I noticed this issue also. I just went back to version 1.3.4 and turned off automatic updates so I didn't have to remove 1.3.7 and re-install the older one every time I rebooted. 1.3.4 downloads the fully loaded file instantly. SO much better
