How is that relevant? No one should upgrade to Fx 4, which has been unsupported since June of 2011.dhouwn wrote:Maybe wait a little bit until standalone Firefox 3.6 is officially unsupported (end of April)?
[RESOLVED] NS Icon gone after update from Fx 3.x to Fx 4+

Because users switching from Firefox 3.6 to newer versions might stumble upon this issue? Maybe a plus should be added after the 4 in the thread title to make clear that this is affects newer version just as well (since the status bar wasn't re-added).

Fair enough.dhouwn wrote:Because users switching from Firefox 3.6 to newer versions might stumble upon this issue?
No one's posted here in four months. Maybe that's because this thread is actually being read by all users who encounter the issue, but how often does that happen?

FWIW, I encountered it too, still using Fx 3.6.x as default browser, but admittedly, a little more familiar with the "Customize" options than many average users might be. So it got done. I just assumed that it was one more way in which MZ keeps making each new version less and less user-friendly, and with that attitude, one copes quite well.

btw, is there a way to get the icon in *both* the top bar and whatever they want to call the bottom bar now, like it is in the more user-friendly 3.6?
Yes, that would clarify things considerably. And since it's only an issue for migration from Fx < 4 to GEQ 4, I'll go out on a limb and and put that in the title.dhouwn wrote:Maybe a plus should be added after the 4 in the thread title to make clear that this is affects newer version just as well (since the status bar wasn't re-added).
If someone objects, or GM or another Mod wants to revert or modify, fine. But as it stands now, the first impression is, "Why is that still here?"
See how it looks now.
ETA: IIRC, the thread also contained some mention of a bug in which updates in the F5-F7 range *uninstalled* NS, but that bug seems to be fixed.
Also IIRC, there was some split to a new topic about that. So one hopes that this title reflects the actual remaining issue.

Look at the page views. If they're still rising then folk are getting help from the thread, which covers one of the most frequently encountered problems with NS. What's wrong with allowing users to read the thread to extract whatever information they can use? Heaps of links and reading in there.Tom T. wrote: No one's posted here in four months. My vote is to remove the upgrade specifics you added to the title and leave the thread stickied there until page views slow down.
Or not...
maybe you like pasting your lecture on using search engines into posts.

Make that one of the most frequently encountered problems caused by "enhancements" made by Firefox (& affecting more then just "NS")

Could you please reconcile that with dhouwn's statement?TooSpecific wrote:My vote is to remove the upgrade specifics you added to the title... .
If the icon is there in F8, does updating to F9 remove it?dhouwn wrote:

dhouwn implies that it does not, and that only the major structural changes from F3.x to F4 and beyond create this specific problem. (the disappearance of the status bar, in particular.)
@ therube:
OK, but we're really only concerned here with NS. Users who find all of their add-on icons, etc. disappearing are likely to go to Firefox help -- as they should.Make that one of the most frequently encountered problems caused by "enhancements" made by Firefox (& affecting more then just "NS")
Thanks all for input. Still very much open to more.

Re: NoScript Icon disappears after updating from Fx 3.x to F
therube's observation about it being a general symptom of the "improved" Firefox for all extensions? Why should NS be separate in this particular case? Why do you want to throw away the general Fx extension troubleshooting baby with the specific bathwater in this thread and yet refer users to the general Fx troubleshooting recipes otherwise?
I'm arguing against making the title specific because it could turn the general impatient user away from the proven several fixes for missing toolbar icons symptoms, so I can't reconcile that with the observation made by dhouwn that upgrades within Fx 4+ aren't affected by the disappearing icon symptom. And I can't see why I should, given that I'm arguing against such specifics. You yourself may like to have another look at the general topic of missing extension icons, and see that this is a recurring and worrying extension problem and that before this thread was stickied, there were multiple new posts about the symptoms. Reconcile that yourself with the request made by one user for redundant stickies to be removed.
What about removing the specifics in the title and adding more links from the board into the thread? Do some reading and research in the boards to save yourself work posting into this kind of argument. Why was it stickied in the first place? No offence of course, but you could also do yourself a favour by reading on the general Fx mozillazine boards a little bit. NS is not separate from the community of Fx after all. Help the non-tech user is always the spirit of Fx volunteers.

I have no idea. I'm not the one who stickied it, or requested that it be made sticky. You'd have to ask the Admin.TooSpecific wrote:Why was it stickied in the first place?
Of course.No offence of course,
Perhaps, but given the difficulty of making a living in the current global economy, and the workload here, plus Real Life, I don't know when that would fit in.but you could also do yourself a favour by reading on the general Fx mozillazine boards a little bit.
Especially with getting into long
I got your message anyway, and in fact, I was a member (non-Mod) there when NS Support was *one single thread* at MZ.
No argument about the spirit. I think that donating thousands of hours of research and 2000+ posts is pretty public-spirited, though you are free to disagree, of course.NS is not separate from the community of Fx after all. Help the non-tech user is always the spirit of Fx volunteers.
My point was that if *any* update makes *all* of my add-on icons disappear, I'm going to head to Fx Help.
If it makes only one add-on's icon disappear, I'd head to the support for that icon.
If the RP or ABP add-ons disappear, but not NS, would Justin and Wladimir expect their users to come here for help?
Many, many posts have been answered by a link to a thread at MZ; a FX Help article; and the Standard Diagnostic, which solves many *non*-NS-related issues too.
And we have a sticky, Firefox Help Links, with links to many helpful resources at MZ.
It's not the purpose of this forum to become a general Firefox Support forum. We already have users who complain if their posts aren't answered in twelve hours. (I'd link to some, but rather not further embarrass anyone.) I've had *paid* sw support that took a week just to acknowledge receiving the inquiry.
If many users agree with you, that's certainly to be considered.
I'd also like to hear from the remaining Mods.
And if Giorgio should choose to weigh in, then of course his decision is final. (Although he's very busy, I'm sure he'd see such a major title change in a major sticky topic any time he were to log in, and of course he's notified of each of these replies. Hasn't reverted it yet, but if he does, fine.)
Please excuse me now.
I'm back. ETA:
Help for the non-tech user -- almost 8,000 views, originated by this writer, with team input, of course.Help the non-tech user is always the spirit of Fx volunteers.
Help for the non-tech user -- recent project of this (non-public-spirited) writer.
Help for the non-tech user -- specifically, items #1, 7, 8, and 9. Almost 28,000 views, another project conceived and originated by yours truly, though of course with input from the rest of the Team, and vetting/approval by the Admin.
You'll also note (maybe) that I chose to overlook the parts of your message that were sarcastic, uncivil, or insulting. Perhaps you too could be public-spirited, and phrase your disagreements in a civil manner that does not attack the other party? ... Actually, that's *required* by that third document, which of course you read before posting -- didn't you?
Cheers.

Re: NoScript Icon disappears after updating from Fx 3.x to F
Hi, I absolutely love this app.
I'm not sure of the circumstances anymore, but I was using FF7.01 and probably added something that caused the icon to disappear from the add-on bar. It appears when I look at the customize option, so I'm not sure what to do, otherwise it functions properly, you just can't see the icon. It has carried over to FF10.0 also.
Mozilla has vastly improved itself in FF10 as far as fixing the problem of addins and extensions not working as most are now working again, and Real Player had an update yesterday so that you can download videos again.

same problem on Firefox 10.0.1
I'm facing the same problem here. The icon doesn't appear and I saw it on the customize options. I drag and dropped it and at the first click the icon turns "opaque", it doesn't show any function. I'd love to know what can I do, 'cause I've already formated my pc 2 weeks ago and the first problem I've faced was the NoScript extension.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Does your Error Console (CTRL+SHIFT+J) show any message when this happens?

FF 10.0.1 icon disappeared. No icon in customize & some sites are not functional enough with standard settings. Tried removing add-on & reinstall. Same result. Thanks
