NoScript hijacks my browser

Why the heck does NoScript periodically hijack my browser and create a new tab with your website?

REMOVE IT.

I installed NoScript to get rid of annoyances, not to add a new one.

Problem solved. As you yourself are in the business of removing unwanted annoyances from peoples browsers, you probably won't mind that I have now permanently blocked your website from my browser, and will never visit it again.

That is what you get from annoying people.

You should know better, that the kind of people who download NoScript, are those who will not tolerate such things, and yet you do it yourself.

Options | Notifications -> Display the release notes on updates

Uncheck it.

Though you would have known that had you read the release notes on update .

Besides, if this is about release notes on update, that is not a way to do it. How about showing a small dialog box telling me that there are a new updates available, instead of just redirecting my browser to your homepage on startup? That is no different from malicious homepages changing the startup page in my browser, which I think anyone can agree is extremely annoying. This is nothing but a lame trick to force me to visit you website with regular intervals, and I will have nothing to do with it.

NoScript does not individually update.
All updates, browser or extension, are controlled by your settings of your browsers updates.
(Tools | Options | Advanced | Update, it looks like in FF.)
(That may change in the future with FF, not sure. But again that is Mozilla that would determine that, not any individual extension.)

The only thing that NoScript (by default) does is when it updates, it loads its page to display the release notes. Kind of gives you some clue as to what has changed.

If you do not want to see that, you just deselect the notification as described above.

Confirming what therube, who is a SeaMonkey user, said about Firefox: The above path in Firefox lets you choose whether to check for updates automatically (safest for browser and add-ons, as critical security issues may be involved), and if so, whether to download and install updates automatically, or to ask you what to do. I choose the latter. So, no "hijacking". When it is convenient, I'll do the install. And yes, that applies to *all* add-ons, not just NoScript.

Yep. Many users do like to see what's changed. But if not, do as therube said.

where the very first entry starts out with,

1) Please search the FAQ for NoScript ... *before posting*,

which obviously didn't happen, because searching for "update" or "release" would have brought you to FAQ 2.5 which would have resolved your concern immediately.

btw, there's a reason that they're called "Frequently Asked Questions". It's because they're asked, uh, "frequently."

You're not punishing NoScript by your actions. I hope you mean that you blocked only the site, and not uninstalling the product, which would punish yourself with a huge loss of security.
What you're doing is taking a valuable product that was given to you *for free*, and griping about it without even asking. Even though reading the FAQ would have given you the solution, if you'd posted your complaint as a question, "How do I stop this?" instead of as a rant or demand, we'd have been happy to tell you, or point to the FAQ.

All this value at no cost, and all this support also available at no cost....
