conflict with Menu Editor (slow context menus)

Hello,

I'm using Firefox 7.0.1 with FlashGot 1.3.3 and Menu Editor 1.2.7 installed. I have the following problem with the right-click context menu:

After start or restart of Firefox, right-clicking into the main window results in a somewhat messed up context menu which needs a few seconds before it switches to normal. Also, during the first few seconds when it's still messed up it's not usable. The context menu stays normal during the same Firefox session, but the problem occurs anew after each start/restart of Firefox. The picture I attached shows the look of the messed up menu.



After some troubleshooting I found out that the reason for this strange behaviour is an extension conflict between FlashGot and Menu Editor. I tested it in a clean profile and as soon as both addons are enabled the problem occurs (I'm not sure at the moment if at least one change to the menu structure has to be made with Menu Editor though).

Disabling FlashGot solves the problem as does disabling Menu Editor. As there are no real alternatives to Menu Editor I'm somewhat dependent on that extension and its developers don't seem very keen on implementing bug fixes/user support. That is why I hope to get some help or insights here. Thank you.

Can someone reproduce the problem with a clean profile and confirm? Because there are probably many users out there who are using Menu Editor and FlashGot at the same time I can't believe this problem happens to noone else but me. If it's really only me though, I wonder why that is.. I mean I tested in a clean profile. What else could be the reason?

I've been using FlashGot and Menu Editor together for years and don't recall ever experiencing this issue.

I am able to reproduce it in a clean profile that has only FlashGot and Menu Editor installed after I used Menu Editor to remove "Reload" from the main context menu. The problematic menu appears for less than 1/5 of a second before being replaced with the correct menu.

Firefox 7.0.1
FlashGot 1.3.4 with default settings
Menu Editor 1.2.7 with some menu editing

Hi Alan,

thank you for giving your perspective, it surely helps to shed a light on the issue. I'm almost sure that I never had said problem before but since I was upgrading to Firefox 7.0.1 only recently it might have to do something with that version.. But who knows.. I would be interested in what the developer can say about this.
