[RESOLVED] Facebook not working

Post by eastcoast11 »

I have noscript 2.1.7, just updated to firefox 7, and now facebook does not work properly unless i disable noscript entirely ("allowing global" does not work). I can log into facebook, and I can view such pages as "account settings" etc, at which time my chat friends will populate, however I cannot view my profile or the home page. i only get the top bar that shows my login name, and signout, etc. I tried using ABE solution 8.11 from noscript FAQ's, and entered the facebook rule to allow photo uploader plugin (doesnt seem to be my issue) and it did not help. I know that noscript is the issue since I disabled only noscript in the addon extensions in firefox.

Please try NoScript Options|Export (for future reference/restore) and then NoScript Options|Reset.

It seems not to be related directly to the NoScript version. I'm using two different Firefox version (3.6.x and 7.x) on two different machines, which both use the same NoScript version (2.1.8).

Facebook works with Firefox 3.6.x, but not anymore with the 7.x, thought it has worked for it once too. So I think that it is more a combination of Firefox and NoScript versions.

I have tried downgrade NS to 2.1.7, which did not resolve the issue on Fx 7.0.1.

The only thing that seems to help currently is to forbid any scripts from facebook.com and related servers. This is for example achieved by the Reset mentioned above or by explicitly forbidding them manually to prevent loss of all the other configuration. After doing that Facebook will redirect the browser to the same page with some GET parameter, which will then set the 'noscript' cookie and show the "You need JavaScript for Facebook" message.

Afterwards Facebook is still not completely functional, the async loading of further posts/topics etc. is still not functional, but offered and just does nothing. But you can actually see things, logout and do some stuff that was not possible previously.

AFAIK under Fx 3.6.x I have it fully working with scripts enabled.

Just out of curiosity, you don't have any ABE rules that might be incomplete or causing this issue do you? Any other addons that can be interfering? Have you tried with a clean profile and just NS to see if the problem still happens or goes away?

Some things to look into:

1. bad ABE filter
2. anti-social Adblock filters
3. ghostery
4. request policy
5. any referrer or cookie management addon

just a few things to eliminate....

With the new NoScript 2.2.2rc2 the problems are resolved again without any further changes (no other updates or config changes).

Thanks,
Dranuhl.
