[UNKNOWN] dev Build Download Error

Post by GµårÐïåñ »

Giorgio, a heads up that the link for the dev build generates a connection error.

It works for me.
Maybe a temporary glitch?
Could you try clearing your cache and retrying?
Thank you.

I tried again with a clean start and everything, it gave the exact same error. I tried on another machine, got the same error. I tried on a different IP connection and it gave me the same error. Not sure what's going on, but it seems somehow it breaks. I get the error in the picture every time. Any other ideas you want me to try?

Well that's not the problem, since it obviously loads the install, just can't actually download anything when it is allowed. I don't think we should have to do a download to drive and then open/run to make it work. If its not working, either on the browser side (thinking DNS caching or other issues) question becomes why, if its on the server side losing connection to the browser, another why. So just saying that click/allow/install doesn't work, even if the download/run/install does. Simple question is why, whatever the cause. I have rotated IPs, servers, machines, and even DNS servers, no fix.

(No problem installing directly <yesterday at Giorgio's site> through the browser itself, or downloading from Giorgio's website <today> & installing directly.

Now when I click the #dev build link, I do get a message, "SeaMonkey prevented this website (noscript.net) from asking you to install software on your computer", with an option to install anyway - which works. Suppose that is because secure.informaction.net is allowed to install <has permission to install> but noscript.net is not.)

Update: This morning I tried again and ultimately the exact same result as in the screenshot. However, today it didn't die and give this message right after clicking Allow but rather when you click on allow it started the download with the progressbar and it went about 70% of the way and then suddenly terminated and popped the error in the screenshot. Not sure what's going on but the only way to do it is manually right now, automated installs don't work directly from the website. I haven't tested with AMO because I wanted the dev build, not the release.

To make sure its not our DNS or connection or whatever, I started a clean profile in which I tried the NS, failed. But tried 35 other addons using the same method (not using AMO but direct from the dev site) and they all popped to allow, done, downloaded, installed and prompted for restart. The only one that keeps failing is NS, not sure why. Is it something with the package, or changes you made to your SSL maybe? Not sure, just thinking out loud hoping for a resolution on the WHY?

Just in case it has to do something with the connection, could you please post the output of http://www.speedguide.net:8080/ for you?

Should not be necessary but here it is on this box:
« SpeedGuide.net TCP Analyzer Results »
Tested on: 09.19.2011 17:16
IP address: 69.234.xx.xxx
Client OS: Windows NT 4.0

TCP options string: 020405ac0103030201010402
MSS: 1452
MTU: 1492
TCP Window: 66792 (multiple of MSS)
RWIN Scaling: 2 bits (2^2=4)
Unscaled RWIN : 16698
Recommended RWINs: 63888, 127776, 255552, 511104, 1022208
BDP limit (200ms): 2672kbps (334KBytes/s)
BDP limit (500ms): 1069kbps (134KBytes/s)
MTU Discovery: ON
TTL: 120
Timestamps: OFF
SACKs: ON
IP ToS: 00000000 (0)
There are a couple of things it got wrong, but oh well close enough I guess and irrelevant, so its ok.

Sorry I didn't answer sooner, been dealing with a bit of an illness. On the test that I did at that moment and posted, YES, I was on DSL but my primary connection is T1 (not fractional) in my own personal office (home) which I use exclusively only and the rest of the home uses a 6 Mbps DSL. But at the office, to which I VPN all the time has multiple T3 lines running on an OC3 backbone with bandwidth that would make your head spin. I have tried on ALL of them directly without tunneling and no go, same error. Hope that helps.

Giorgio, not to beat a dead horse buddy but still not working. I just tried downloading the latest dev and I clicked on it, it popped up asking to allow, I said allow, it showed connecting, then it showed the download bar and it went all the way to 100% and then suddenly when it finished and said installing, BAM, the error that I posted before came up saying connected with Noscript.net terminated. Not sure what to tell you buddy and I have done EVERYTHING to find out what's going on, but no go, any ideas? I mean I know you pretty much washed your hand of this when you said it works for you and left it alone but its happening and it would be nice to know why. I mean downloading the XPI, and then opening it to install is getting quite old.

I've got no idea, really, especially if as you said you tried on a clean profile.

Ok, then, we'll just put it in the unknown files and see if/when something shines a light on it. If I figure it out I will let you know, if not then I will have to just jump through some extra hoops to get the dev builds.

OK, settings look fine for DSL. With wrong settings, like wrong MTU, you could trigger strange behaviours like partial downloads etc, but these look good.
