[RESOLVED] Fx 5 hangs with NoScript installation

Post by hotfudgie007 »

I am using Firefox 5.0 and after I installed noscript my firefox gets hung up. I have to literally close it out using the windows task manager after I try to customize noscript. I have used all of the suggestions that I have found on this forum and haven't found a solution yet. It does not appear anywhere on my browser and was wondering is there something that I am missing here. Thanks for your help in advance. :(

I felt the previous topic is not the right place for this issue and you should have posted a fresh topic on this matter so we can debug it. So I split it based on your report into this topic and we can hopefully debug without getting off topic.

Have you tried with a clean profile and just NS to see if it keeps happening? Also trying installing latest development build. It could very well be another addon/extension that is causing this problem and its coincidental to the installation of NoScript. Chances are you will notice that its not causing that problem by itself and therefore the problem is something else. The next step would then be to try Standard Diagnostic and see which addon is actually breaking it.

I have tried everything that has been recommended even disabled all my plugins and still nothing. The only add on that I have is NS, I used to have it before I lost my internet and since I got my internet back, I updated everything, it seems as though it just isn't working.

I don't understand why it would not work for you if you have a clean profile, with just NoScript installed at the moment. It has been working fine for everyone else and I can't reproduce your situation. So here are a few more questions in the hope of maybe finding a fringe case that is affecting you. 1) What OS are you running on? 32/64 bit? 2) Do you have administrative rights or are you a limited user? 3) Just to confirm, you installed the latest development build right?

1) I'm running XP home service pack 3, 32 bit
2) I am admin
3) yes I installed everything.

I guess it's probably my computer. Might take it in and have a service check cause I'm now clueless and think it may be internal. It hasn't ran for like two months but I don't see why I can't install NS. It's a refub comp that I got two years ago.

Ok, everything there seems fine. Nothing unusual. Can you run firefox with the following command line switch -p and when the profile manager comes up, click on new, give it a name you will understand, like test_ns and then load it, go to the latest development build install it, restart the profile and then try to access what you were doing and see if the problem still persists. This should be the cleanest way to test this to make sure its not something else jumping in and creating interference. Make sure you don't install anything else (addons/extensions) in the meantime. Other than that, I am at a loss as to what's going. Maybe Giorgio will have something.

You are welcome. I am glad we got that resolved. However please note, when you are putting back and adding stuff back onto it, do it ONE AT A TIME, restart and test to make sure something you add doesn't break your functionality again. This will allow you to know if you have an addon that is causing problems or might in the future, ok? Good luck.
