[FIXED] Conflict with Load Tabs Progressively

Post by garcia »

Edit: The following issue has been fixed by updating to Load Tabs Progressively 1.6.1pre2.

Hi I seem to have found a conflict between NoScript and the "Load Tabs Progressively" extension.
On FF startup, Load Tabs Progressively is supposed to only loads tabs within the current tab-group. A very useful feature, if like me you have over 100 tabs in various different tab groups.

Unfortunately there seems to be a conflict with NoScript in that when I install NoScript, the "only load tabs within current group" function of LTP gets broken and FF loads my 120 odd tabs all at once. No other extension seems to do this.

Have tried on a clean build with only NoScript & LTP installed.

How to reproduce the bug:

1. Start a clean profile in FF 4.01
2. Install NoScript & Load Tabs Progressively extensions.
3. In Panorama create 2 tab groups, the default and an extra one where you place a tab which will play some sound (so you know whether it is loaded or not). Just choose a convenient youtube video (make sure youtube is allowed in your noscript settings and that the video plays ok, and that it has sound).
4. Switch back to your main tab-group (the one *without* the youtube video) and restart

Expected result: The current tab group is supposed to load without background tabs in other tab groups loading.

Actual result: Instead all tabs load and e.g. you will find that you can hear the youtube video in the background.

I have tried with latest development builds (as well as old versions). Conflict remains.
I'm really not sure why noscript is interfering with LTP in this way.
Any help much appreciated!
garcia.

If it helps, the 2 extensions don't seem to conflict in firefox 4.08b. It is only in later versions of FF that the conflict starts. I don't know if that helps diagnose where the conflict lies?

Many thanks,
garcia.

Using your steps to reproduce -- thank you -- I'm able to confirm the problem in Fx 4.0 Beta 9 and Fx 5.0 on Windows XP SP3 using the most current version of each extension with their default settings:
NoScript 2.1.2rc3
Load Tabs Progressively 1.6.1pre
I Allowed youtube.com, ytimg.com, and googletagservices.com in NoScript.
I see no errors or NoScript messages in the Error Console.

As you reported, the problem does not occur in Fx 4.0 Beta 8.

I'm able to work around the problem by disabling ABE in NoScript: uncheck NoScript Options > Advanced > ABE > Enable ABE. I suggest you update to Fx 5.0 ASAP and disable ABE until it's fixed. Fx 4.0 Beta 8 has several vulnerabilities.

@Alan Baxter:
thank you for your insight. Unfortunately ABE is almost a product per-se, with many moving parts, so there's still a lot to be investigated :(

Thank you for the reply. Fortunately, not too many users are using Tab Groups, Load Tabs Progressively, and NoScript. I guess for now, this will just have to be a known issue.

I'll add my name to the list of ones having problems with Load Tabs Progressively.....it basically appears to be disabled.....I don't use Tab Groups......I just have LTP set to load 2 tabs at a time starting from the left......since installing NoScript, they just load normally (all at once).......I'm running FF 5.0 (Win 7).

Firefox isn't loading them all at the same time for me, Richard, but the load order doesn't seem reliable if NoScript is installed. It works better for me if I disable ABE. Try that:
Uncheck NoScript Options > Advanced > ABE > Enable ABE

Fx 5.0 on Windows XP SP3
I have only the two extensions installed:
NoScript 2.1.2.4rc3 with its default settings, except ABE is disabled.
Load Tabs Progressively 1.6.1pre (the dev version available from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... n-1.6.1pre
LTP is set to load 2 tabs at a time starting from the left.
