One version - different installs / outlook?

Post by landscapes »

I installed new firefox 5 on tuesday - with current noscript version: noscript symbol appears below in the status bar.

I reinstalled firefox 5 today - with same noscript version - now noscript symbol appears above in the navigation bar.

confusing .... was there a minor update? is it a bug?

Firefox installation was exactly the same ....

Was NoScript already installed?
Was the add-on (FKA "status") bar already visible?

it was a completely new computer installation

i dont know if the status bar was visible before but now noscript installs to navigations bar even though the status bar (with adblock plus) is visible

EDIT:

i just restored the old hd-image without firefox and installed firefox, adblock plus and noscript again: now its again in the status bar.

I tried again and again and its always in status bar.

But if i use the current hd image i can install with the same procedure and its always in the navigations bar.

weird

Fx 4 and above have no status bar.
The "add-on bar", which replaces it, is hidden by default, and gets shown only if user explicitly chooses so or if an extension installs a button there.
NoScript tries to be a good citizen, and when it is installed checks whether the add-on bar is hidden or not: if it is, NoScript puts its button on the navigation bar, otherwise it adds it to the add-on bar.

Adblock Plus most likely does the opposite, installing its button on the add-on bar by default , and doing so it forces the add-on bar to visible.

Hence the different outcomes:
  1. If you install NoScript on a fresh Firefox 5, it goes up into the navigation bar
  2. If you install NoScript after AdBlock Plus (or other extensions behaving the same way), it goes to the bottom
  3. If you install NoScript in a batch with other extensions, the outcome may vary depending on which gets initialized first

thanks for your super fast answer and explanations :)

Is there a way to configure the place where it should be placed?

Right-click any toolbar and use the "Customize" command, then drag the buttons around until they please you.
