Firefox 4 and Flash got 1.2.85 open in new window blank

Post by Jason Moore »

Just upgraded to Firefox 4 today and was able to upgrade the Flashgot plugin to 1.2.8.5. I had the problem that when I right-clicked on a link and tried to open that link in a new window, a new Firefox window would launch but it would be blank. Session manager shows that this new window is launched with a about:blank.

Anyway, I disabled every plugin, one at a time and the plugin that caused this problem was Flashgot (unfortunately). Right-click on a link and open in new tab works, but open in a new window gives a blank window.

Hope this can be fixed. In any case, let me express my appreciation for Flashgot - it really is the number one plugin for me.

Thank-you.

I cannot reproduce.
Does it happen on a clean profile with just FlashGot installed (default options)?

If not, could you tell me which about:config options in your default profile start with "flashgot." and are listed in bold (non-default values)?

Got these from the prefs.js file for my profile. I assume they include just the ones that are changed.

user_pref("fireshot.captureModeSB", 0);
user_pref("fireshot.curVersion", "0.88");
user_pref("fireshot.firstTimeRunFlag", false);
user_pref("fireshot.isProMode", false);
user_pref("fireshot.isRegistered", false);
user_pref("fireshot.toolbarCreated", true);
user_pref("flashgot.Net_Transport.encode", false);
user_pref("flashgot.custom.Retriever.maxLinks", 10);
user_pref("flashgot.defaultDM", "JDownloader");
user_pref("flashgot.detect.cache", "(Browser Built In),JDownloader,Free Download Manager");
user_pref("flashgot.dmchoice", false);
user_pref("flashgot.dmsopts.GetRight.quiet", false);
user_pref("flashgot.dmsopts.JDownloader.args", "-Xmx512m -jar ");
user_pref("flashgot.dmsopts.JDownloader.path", "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\JDownloader\\JDownloader.jar");
user_pref("flashgot.extensions", "");
user_pref("flashgot.hide-all", false);
user_pref("flashgot.hide-buildGallery", false);
user_pref("flashgot.hide-it", false);
user_pref("flashgot.hide-media", false);
user_pref("flashgot.hide-options", false);
user_pref("flashgot.hide-sel", false);
user_pref("flashgot.installing", false);
user_pref("flashgot.multiDir", "E:\\down\\_download");
user_pref("flashgot.tmpDir", "C:\\Users\\ADMINI~1\\AppData\\Local\\Temp");
user_pref("flashgot.version", "1.2.8.5");

I will try the Flashgot only test next. TY.

I started with my same profile but disabled all plugins except Flashgot. I found that Roboform Toolbar for Firefox 7.2.6 is conflicting with with Flashgot. I can have either Flashgot or Roboform and the "open in new window" context menu will work, i.e., a new Firefox window will open and the page will display. Having both plugins enabled at the same time does cause the "open in new window" context menu item to open a new blank window.

I did not see any lines in the prefs.js file for Roboform excep the user_pref("extensions.installCache"...).

My two favorite plugins. Any suggestions.

I noticed that Firebug does not start when click the icon in the far right of the status bar if both Roboform and Flashgot are running. Disable one of them and Firebug works again. I also reverted to a previous version of Roboform 7.2.5 with no benefit. Well, that's it.

Removed Firefox 4, removed profile, app data, and app files. Reinstalled Firefox 4 (and Roboform 7.2.7 was available). Then installed Flashgot 1.2.8.5 and later 1.2.8.6rc1 and got the same problem - opening a link in a new window resulted in a blank window. In essence, I was limited to using just one window for Firefox 4. Opening a second window resulted in a blank window (no bookmarks, roboform closed, no search bar, one tab, blank window).

Disabling Roboform fixed the problem. Enabling Roboform and disabling Flashgot fixed the problem. Could not run both.

I am running on a Windows 7 SP1 x64 system. So I tried to duplicate the problem on a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and got the same results or I should say the same problems.

Also Firebug would not work with both Roboform and Flashgot enabled although it would work with either alone.

Final solution was to go back to Roboform 7.2.3 - this seems to works with Flashgot 1.2.8.6rc1. And the Firebug 1.7.0 addon works with Roboform 7.2.3 and Flashgot 1.2.8.6rc1 both enabled. That's good news at least for the immediate moment.

I am getting nearly the same problem. I have checked my firewall (windows 7 firewall) and my antivirus (ESET NOD) and set appropriate exemptions. When I go to a website and click on the download link. I get a pop up asking me to choose the appropriate program and I appropriately choose Flashget 3 and then flashgot refers my download to my Flashget software which open empty without any downloads listed. Below is my Flashgot log:

@aranate:
Your problem looks very different.
It seems you've got a bogus custom FlashGet 3 entry as your default download manager.
Please try to switch to the auto-detected "FlashGot 2.x" entry provided by FlashGot by default.

Ok flashgot is not compatible with Mozilla Firefox 4.0. I tried to download video on youtube and they somehow show 2MB for videos when they are in fact 10 minutes long, and are 14 mb. When I went to IE9 and used Orbitdownloader, I absolutely had no problem downloading videos. By the way, when I downloaded Firefox 4, I had a message telling me that add on are not compatible with Firefox 4. One of them was youtube downloader. Norton Antivirus released patch to offset the problem with Norton toolbar and firefox 4 incompatibility. Now, problem with Flashgot. Are they going to make any patches?

you need to select the flashgot settings.

go to fire fox, click tools, click flashgot, click on more options.

1. on general tab, change download manager to flashget 2, on downloads, my setting is INTERCEPT ALL DOWNLOADS, try it and see if this works for you.
