Occasional hang on HTTPS POST

Post by Cedders »

Hi

For about the last 8 weeks I've been having an annoying little problem when submitting forms, almost always via HTTPS I think.

Firefox 3.6.15 with ABP, TabMixPlus, Firebug, QuickJava, MyWOT and NoScript 2.0.9.9.

After filling in a form and clicking submit, Firefox spends an unusually long time with "Waiting for [host]..." in the status line. Sometimes after a timeout, the host responds with a 400 "Bad request", so it looks like some add-on isn't allowing the request body through. I usually have to click stop, and resubmit. It seems that it's always the first attempt for a given site that is affected, and subsequent POST requests work OK.

Because it's intermittent, it's been quite hard to track down the issue reliably, but I have a strong suspicion it happened about 4 NoScript updates ago. Has anyone else seen anything similar? (If not, it might make sense that it might be MyWOT unable to connect to a server.)

Will do a bit more testing now.

I've seen something similar happening with LiveHTTPHeaders some time ago.
Have you got the "Net" Firebug panel enabled when this happens?

Similar symptoms observed here.
Don't do enough web form submitting to have bothered troubleshooting it.
Definitely not only on https connections, but always when the server has some credentials or other, for example I predict that this post won't hang on entry.
JSView, Cert Patrol,NoRedirect,RefControl,ShowIP,YASS,Text Link,Nuke Anything Enhanced, QuickRestart,ReminderFox . All are latest AMO versions except JSView from 3rd party and NS latest development.

Happy to troubleshoot if needed.

Confirming these posts aren't stalling on entry,
Similar behaviour on XP Home SP3 with same basic set of extensions.

It was annoying when it was happening. Now it's annoying that it's not happening.

No, I didn't have the "Net" panel enabled in Firebug, but do now. Maybe I should have mentioned that I also have ShowIP and LiveHTTPHeaders. I've seen this on more than one machine, both Ubuntu, and I think I've now listed all the extensions they have in common. I may have been wrong about https.

Bugs like this always take ages to track down.
As long as the mods leave this thread open you/I can return with more symptoms if/when.

One more intermittent symptom that I seem to remember went with the form submission stalling was stalling on text input and editing: a feeling that something was hunting in the background.
I'll keep my wits about me for the next time, and an eye on the console maybe.

Forgot other observation:
We've had a few Fx updates in the last few months too.
The last one coincided with this thread yesterday on our connection here...
